Summary
PS Plusis already off to a good start in October, withDead Space(2023),WWE 2K24, andDoki Doki Literature Club Plus!all now available as part of the service’s Essential tier. However, withPS Plus' Extra and Premium games on the horizon, it should consider prioritizing one genre of game, especially in light of two particular titles that were recently added to the service.
PS Plus' Extra and Premium gamesfor October 2024 will be announced on October 9 and then will be added to the service the following week, on October 15. While it’s impossible to know right now what games might be added, the hope is that PS Plus will capitalize on a trend it has already started.
PS Plus October 2024 Needs More Horror in Its Extra and Premium Lineup
Two of the biggest titles that have already made their way to PS Plus in October aretheDead SpaceremakeandThe Last of Us Part 1, also a remake. While they are two excellent titles for their approach to the remake model alone, what makes their PS Plus arrival so timely is the current season. With Halloween quickly approaching, spooky season is here, meaning there has never been a better time to play horror games like theDead Spaceremake andThe Last of Us Part 1.
TheDead Spaceremake was released last January and earned positive reviews from critics for taking the setting and gameplay of the original game and significantly improving upon it. While the story of theDead Spaceremake remains the same, the game brought a host of new additions to the experience, like a fully-voicedIsaac Clarke,Dead Space’s protagonist, an overhaul of the game’s predominant setting, the USG Ishimura, and refined combat as well as enhanced visuals and gore.
The Last of Us Part 1received many negative reviewsduring its initial launch on Steam, but it has since bounced back after updates were made to improve its performance on PC. While it’s not quite the horror experience thatDead Spaceis, it still has its moments, especially when Joel and Ellie are exploring some of its darkest areas. At its core,The Last of Us Part 1is still the same game as the original, but it features enhanced gameplay and combat, along with more accessibility options than it had before.

PS Plus Extra and Premium Games for October 2024 Should Capitalize on Spooky Season
Now that theDead Spaceremake andThe Last of Us Part 1have kicked things off for PS Plus during spooky season, the service should see even more horror games added to its Extra and Premium lineup this month. Some notable additions might includetheResident Evil 4remake, which received universal acclaim after its launch last year, as well as the PS4’sF.E.A.R., a first-person shooter that drenches players in atmospheric horror.
PS Plus might also consider addingSoma, a first-person survival horror game with stealth elements and puzzle-solving, to October 2024’s Extra and Premium lineup. Finally, in light of the release oftheSilent Hill 2remake, perhaps the classic PS2 game,Silent Hill 3, would be a worthwhile addition to PS Plus' Extra and Premium selection this month
PS Plus has yet to announce its Extra and Premiumgames for October 2024, but that date is just around the corner. Hopefully, however, PS Plus' Extra and Premium announcement on October 9 will include even more horror titles to contribute to what the service has already started with theDead Spaceremake andThe Last of Us Part 1.
