Summary
The story of Yuji Itadori and the other Jujutsu sorcerers of Japan has finally reached its long-awaited conclusion,since theJujutsu Kaisenmanga has recently been finalized in September 2024. While this ending gave satisfying conclusions to most of its main characters, it also left much to be desired.
The world of curses and sorcery that author Gege Akutami created is so complex and fascinating that he unfortunately didn’t get the chance to properly close off every single plot thread that he previously opened.Jujutsu Kaisenfans still have a lot of burning questions that were left unanswered, and the following eight are some of the biggest ones so far.
8What Happened To Itadori’s Old Friends?
The Fates Of Sasaki, Iguchi And Yuko
At the beginning of the Culling Game Arc, it was shown that Yuji Itadori’s high school friends,Setsuko SasakiandTakeshi Iguchi,were left outside the Culling Game’s barrier. And that was the last time they ever appeared in the manga, which feels like a huge missed opportunity to explain how Kenjaku’s and Sukuna’s actions affected the normal population of Japan.
Not to mention that there was alsoYuko Ozawa, a former classmate of Itadori who had feelings for him and decided not to confess them when they first reunited. Yuko was seemingly introduced as a potential love interest for the main character, but she was never seen or mentioned again after her first appearance.
7What Could All The Unseen Domain Expansions Actually Do?
Fans Wanted To See The Ultimate Techniques Of Yuki, Hanami And Many Others
Domain Expansionsare without a doubt the most brilliant element ofJujutsu Kaisen’spower system. By the end of the series, fans finally got to witness some of the most anticipated ones, like Kenjaku’s Womb Profusion or Yuta Okkotsu’s Authentic Mutual Love.
However, there were several strong characters that never got the chance to show off the full capabilities of their confirmed Domain Expansions, like the Cursed Spirit Hanami or the incarnated sorcerers Ryu Ishigori and Takako Uro. But the most disappointing omission was Yuki Tsumuko’s Domain Expansion, since she mentioned that she planned to unleash it against Kenjaku, but she was abruptly killed off before she could do it.
6Who Were The Five Empty Generals?
Sukuna’s Mysterious Enemies During The Heian Era
At one point, Yorozu mentions how she once defeated theFive Empty Generalsof the Fujiwara Clan, which left fans with more questions than answers. Not much is known about them or their clan, but it seems that they were surprisingly powerful, and their forces were made up of three different squads: Sun, Moon and Stars.
Fans were gearing up for a potential flashback to the fabled Heian Erawhere they would get the chance to see the Five Empty Generals fighting against Sukuna firsthand, but this never happened. It sounded like they were very efficient sorcerers, but, aside from a brief mention of Sukuna’s victory over the three squads, they were swiftly forgotten by the story.
5Why Did Uraume Follow Sukuna?
Sukuna’s Most Loyal Follower Never Got A Proper Flashback
Uraume“The Frozen Star” was one of the most powerful incarnated sorcerers inJujutsu Kaisen, mostly thanks to their Ice Formation cursed technique.They were extremely devoted to Ryomen Sukunaand could be seen helping out the King of Curses on numerous occasions, to the point that they were present in the afterlife alongside him in the final chapter of the manga.
But, oddly enough, Uraume’s backstory and motivations were never properly established, which left a lot of fans wondering why they were so loyal to such an evil being. Sukuna himself was apparently quite fond of Uraume, which seems a bit out of character, but this would have made a lot more sense if their relationship was fleshed out with a flashback.
4Where Did Mahoraga Come From?
The Mystery Of Fushiguro’s Most Powerful Shikigami
Megumi Fushiguro was able to summon several strong shikigami with his Ten Shadows Technique,but none of them could even hold a candle toEight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga. This creature was so incredibly powerful that Sukuna planned to possess Fushiguro’s body just so he could tame and use it in battle.
It was initially established that Mahoraga has existed within the Ten Shadows Technique for many years, and that none of its previous users were ever able to tame it. So where exactly did it come from? How was he created? Why is it so powerful? Satoru Gojo eventually destroyed Mahoraga with his Hollow Purple, before any of these questions could be answered.
3What Happened To The U.S. Military?
Kenjaku Betrayed An Entire Country
One of Kenjaku’s most devious schemes involved negotiations with members of theUnited States government.He convinced him to send his military forces to Japan and abduct sorcerers who were participating in the Culling Game. In actuality, Kenjaku needed to perform a massacre with his cursed spirits in order to create enough cursed energy for his merger with Tengen.
Kenjaku’s reunion with the U.S. authorities gave readers a glimpse into what other countries thought of Japan’s Jujutsu society and how they were eager to use cursed energy as a potential energy source. However, the American soldiers were never seen or mentioned again after the conclusion of the Culling Game Arc, so it’s not entirely clear if any of them survived the attack or if their government ever planned to respond to Kenjaku’s betrayal.
2What Happened To Geto And Gojo’s Corpses?
Two Close Friends Who Shared The Same Tragic Fate
BothSuguru GetoandSatoru Gojomet a similar fate, since both of them had their own corpses hijacked by someone else. Geto’s body was possessed by Kenjaku after the events ofJujutsu Kaisen 0,while Gojo’s body was possessed by Yuta(who copied the same cursed technique) during the battle against Sukuna.
But, once the climactic final fight was over, it was never explicitly stated what happened to these two corpses, although it is possible that Gojo’s body was returned to the Gojo Clan and given a proper burial. On the other hand, Fumihiko Takaba was seen preparing a new comedy routine with a man who closely resembles Geto, although his face was never shown. Is this the corpse of Geto/Kenjaku, which was revived by Takaba’s Comedian technique? Or is it just someone else who happens to look like him?
1Where Are The Other Members Of The Gojo Clan?
Satoru Gojo’s Relatives Were Never Seen
In the world ofJujutsu Kaisen, there are multiple established sorcerer families or clans. Most of them were left underdeveloped, as the manga’s plot was mainly centered on the infamous Zenin Clan,but theGojo Clanis the most intriguing one, since their leader is none other than the mighty Satoru Gojo.
Even though it’s mentioned several times throughout the series that Gojo is the head of a clan that, in theory, has other members, none of them is actually ever seen, including Satoru’s own parents. What was their role within Jujutsu society? How did they react to Satoru Gojo’s imprisonment and abrupt death? What are the origins of the Limitless innate technique and the Six Eyes? There’s no question that this is one of the biggest unexplored plot points in all ofJujutsu Kaisen.
