Summary
A new report suggests that Ubisoft was originally targeting a November 2025 release for the rumored remake ofAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, but that may no longer be the case following the recent delay ofAssassin’s Creed Shadows. Often considered to be one of the greatest in the series,Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagis heavily rumored to be receiving the remake treatment, with an industry insider claiming to have already seen work-in-progress gameplay.
The nextAssassin’s Creedgame was supposed to be hitting PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 15, butUbisoft delayedAssassin’s Creed Shadowsback in September, with the series' first highly-anticipated venture into feudal Japan now targeting a Jun 26, 2025 release date. Unfortunately, as disappointing asShadow’sdelay is, there could be more bad news as an insider claims that this decision has affected the entire pipeline of newAssassin’s Creedgames.
WithAssassin’s Creed Shadowsnow contributing to 2025’s stacked releases, fans of the series likely weren’t expecting to receive anotherAssassin’s Creedgame to release so soon after. Well, according to a new report fromInsider Gaming, Ubisoft originally intended to launchAssassin’s Creed Shadowsin November 2024, followed by a remake ofAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagjust one year later, in November 2025. However, despite the fact that the remake is supposedly “well into development,” the recent delay ofShadowshas reportedly pushed back many other titles in the series, including the remake ofBlack Flag.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Possibly Moved Past 2025
Rumors of anAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagremakefirst surfaced in June 2023, when a report from Kotaku claimed that the project had just been greenlit at Ubisoft. Considering the remake was supposedly in the incredibly early stages of development when the report surfaced, it was suggested that the title would still be a few years away. And with a great number of otherAssassin’s Creedtitles already confirmed by Ubisoft, it seemed like a potential remake ofBlack Flagwould still be some ways off.
Insider Gaming’s report goes on to state that Ubisoft is planning to ramp up itsAssassin’s Creedreleases, with a total of ten different titles set to launch within the next five years. While this will include larger, mainline games likeAssassin’s Creed Shadows, it will also include smaller titles, such asthe mobile release ofAssassin’s Creed Jade, which is rumored to be eyeing a Q2 2025 release. But an internal email seen by Insider Gaming says thatShadow’s delay “will also impact the rest of theAssassin’s Creedroadmap,” which means theBlack Flagremake,Codename Jade, andCodename Invictus(which will be a multiplayer-focusedAssassin’s Creedgame), are all now likely coming later than expected.
