Originally due out on November 15, Ubisoft recently announced thatAssassin’s Creed Shadowshas seen an unfortunate delay to February 14. The nearly three-month delay disappointed many who were excited to get their hands onShadowsthis Fall, as it seemed all but certain the game would hit its release date with Ubisoft set to show face at Tokyo Game Show last month. Now,Ubisoft’s Japan-setAssassin’s Creedtitleis set to release in the same month as Xbox’sAvowed, Capcom’sMonster Hunter Wilds,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and a handful of other major AAA titles, making for what’s sure to be an ultra competitive month for these games.
Just about a week after theAssassin’s Creed Shadowsdelay, rumors are cropping up about a co-op mode Ubisoft plans to implement into the game.Insider Gaming reportsthat Ubisoft Quebec is developing a two-player co-op mode forAssassin’s Creed Shadows, codenamed League. In it, partnered players will take control of the game’s two protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. Insider Gaming clarifies thatShadows’League co-op mode wasn’t the cause of the game’s delay, as the mode had been in development well before Ubisoft decided to push the game to next year. Supporting this, Insider Gaming claims that the mode will be added toAssassin’s Creed Shadowspost-launch.
AC Shadows Rumored To Add Co-Op Mode Post-Launch
The lastAssassin’s Creedgame to heavily feature co-op was 2014’sFrench Revolution-setAssassin’s Creed Unity, which allowed for up to four players to join up. Despite seemingly only hosting two players,Assassin’s Creed Shadows' co-op could be very interesting with how different both Naoe and Yasuke play. According to what Ubisoft has shown of the game, Yasuke isn’t very capable of stealth, and Naoe isn’t as strong in open combat, so players will need to work together to come up with strategies for how to tackle certain areas. This will also be the first big RPG-styleAssassin’s Creedgame to have co-op, so it’ll be interesting to see how this exciting new experience could play out.
Assassin’s Creed Shadowsis set to be joined by a multiplayerAssassin’s Creedgame, known asInvictus, which is also rumored to be coming sometime in 2025. Beyond next year, Ubisoft has Codename Hexe in development, which is touted as a darker, more linear experience set during the Holy Roman witch trials. The heavilyrumoredAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagremake, known internally as Codename Obsidian, is still seemingly in the works. Hopefully, fans will learn more about these two excitingAssassin’s Creedprojects at some point next year.
