Summary

Rumor has it that Nintendo and Game Freak may still have some plans forPokemon Scarlet and Violet, the main seriesPokemongames that were released on the Switch in 2022.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare two of the best-sellingPokemongames ever made, but they are also the lowest-rated main series games in terms of critical reception.

Despite this, Game Freak and Nintendo have remained committed toPokemon Scarlet and Violet. Post-launch updates worked to address some of the problems thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetlaunched with, and the games have also enjoyed two large-scale expansions. WithPokemon Legends: Z-Aconfirmed for 2025, many have assumed Game Freak was done withScarlet and Violet, but as it turns out, that may not be the case.

The hacker behind the massive Game Freak leak has said that they are not going to shareScarlet and Violet’s source because there’s a new update for the games that has not been released. As explained by Centro Leaks on Twitter, the hacker is concerned that sharing the source code would cause an upcomingPokemonin-game event to be canceled. Centro Leaks speculates thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetmay have a new event on the way that will add anew Mythical Pokemonto the games, and that Switch 2 ports forScarlet and Violetmay be in the works. Centro Leaks stressed that the hacker “hasn’t explicitly mentioned that,” so fans should take this information with a grain of salt.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet May Have More Content on the Way

Pokemon Legends: Z-Abeing a spin-off means it won’t replaceScarlet and Violetin the same way that Generation 10 will, and so it may make some sense for Game Freak and Nintendo to continue releasing new content for the games. IfScarlet and Violetare coming to theSwitch 2 consoleas speculated, then it would make even more sense to freshen up the games and potentially get some hardcorePokemonfans to double-dip. Alternatively, perhapsScarlet and Violetcould get a “third” game like Game Freak used to release, alaPokemon Yellow,Crystal, andEmerald.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violethave notorious performance problemson the original Switch, and so perhaps enhanced ports on the Switch 2 could help turn the games' reputation around. Then again, it’s possible thatPokemonfans are burned byScarlet and Violetand aren’t interested in giving the games another chance on superior hardware.

Time will tell what’s next forPokemon Scarlet and Violet. In the meantime,Pokemonfans haveLegends: Z-Ato look forward to in 2025, and theinevitable Generation 10Pokemongames, though it will likely be years before those hit the market.
