Summary
Sins Of A Solar Empire 2is astrategy gamethat builds on the success of the original game, but also adds a layer of polish, making it more accessible to newcomers to the franchise. The UI has been improved significantly, and the overall balance of the game is much better than the original.
The key to winning a game ofSins Of A Solar Empire 2, is having a stable, profitable economy, and getting the economy up and running as quickly as possible. As with mostgrand strategy games, resources must be gathered in order to build military units. So it makes sense to use the initial phase of a playthrough to set up a healthy economy.
7Build Extra Scouts First
To Uncover The Local Map Faster
When starting a new game ofSins Of A Solar Empire 2, all of the map apart from the starting sector is unexplored. Scout ships automatically follow phase lanes inreal-timeand uncover new sectors. However, the player only gets 2 free scout ships at the start of this4X strategy game.
It is a good idea to build some more scout ships right off the bat. Around 5 more scout ships is a good number, as this will ensure that all of the local sectors are uncovered as quickly as possible.
6Find Choke Points Quickly
Look For Defensible Systems
Once the scout ships have uncovered all of the local sectors, it is time to define the boundaries of a fledgling empire. This means looking for natural choke points on the map that can be defended easily. For example, a star system that only has one entry point on the other side of the player.
These choke points will define the starting empire of the player. These are the sectors that will be considered the center of the empire and will have the heaviest defenses of all. They will also be the main backbone of the economy.
5Settle Systems Within Choke Points
Colonize Everything
Once a player has defined the boundaries of their core empire and sealed off the choke points, it is time to start colonizing. Every planet and asteroid adds value to the economy, and they should all be colonized without exception.
There may be a need to complete specific Civilian 1 research projects to be able to colonize certain types of planets such as ice planets and volcanic planets. However, these low-level research projects finish very quickly, in less than a minute. To speed this process up, an additional colonization ship can be built, but this is optional.
4Upgrade Mining
For All Planets And Asteroids
Once all of the planets and asteroids within the defined choke points have been colonized, it is time to start leveraging them to add value to the economy.Resource managementin the early game is important. The initially problematic resource is always metal production at first.
With this in mind, the player needs to visit every single colonized planet and asteroid and upgrade the mining level of the asset to the maximum possible. This will verify that the passive metal production of the empire is as high as possible, without the need to build additional refineries and other structures.
3Upgrade Commerce
Once the player has upgraded mining for all assets, ensuring the maximum level of passive metal production, it is time to do the same for commerce. Every planet and asteroid produces credits for the player automatically. The higher the commerce level of the asset, the more credits it generates.
Planets make the most credits, so it makes sense to upgrade commerce for planets first, although this is not hugely important. In most cases, a player will upgrade commerce in the order that they can afford to do it.
2Survey Fully
For Early Game Exotics And Modules
Once a player has fully upgraded the mining and commerce level for each planet and asteroid they have colonized within the area of space defined by recognizable choke points, their fledgling economy should be producing a fair amount of passive metal and credits.
The next stage is to fully survey every colonized asset. This has two purposes. Firstly, it is a quick source of early-game exotic resources before the player has done the research to manufacture them. Secondly, sometimes special ship modules are uncovered, which can be quite powerful.
1Research Civilian 2
For Orbital Refineries
By this stage, the player has afully functioning economybased around the core empire sectors defined by the previously uncovered defensible choke points. Now it is time to begin boosting the production of credits and metal within the empire.
Building enough civilian research outposts to unlock Civilian 2 research is the next logical step. This will unlock the ability to research key production projects. Orbital crystal fabricators, for example. Once this has been done and the applicable research completed, the player will have a very healthy economy, ready to tackle the rest of the game.
