Following Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami in 2015, the studio has only developed one newMetal Geargame, titledMetal Gear Survive,which was considered a commercial failure due to its poor reception and sales. But with a seemingly faithful remake of one of the series' most beloved entries on the way,Deltacould be exactly what Konami needs.
While Konami has previously confirmed thatMetal Gear Solid Deltawill retain its original voice cast, meaning the studio will re-use dialogue from the original 2004 game, fans are now speculating that the remake could also feature some new voice lines from David Hayter. In a new post on the actor’s official Twitter account, Hayter said he “was in the booth” on October 3, referring to a voice recording booth often used for video games and animated movies or shows. “Playing a role I’ve not played since…” the actor then teased, before following up with a gif of Naked Snake from the upcoming remake.

Although David Hayter has been the iconic voice of Snake for many years, the last mainlineMetal Geargame (Sorry, not you,Metal Gear Survive), ditched Hayter in favor of Kiefer Sutherland. Hayter is best known for lending his voice to Solid and Naked Snake, whileMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Paindid not feature either of those characters and was instead centered around Venom Snake and Big Boss.
The decision to replace Hayter was a controversial one, butKojima defended the casting of Kiefer Sutherland inMetal Gear Solid V, explaining in an interview prior to the game’s release that the 2015 title was a “new type ofMetal Geargame.” As such, the director said they wanted to reflect that by casting a new voice actor for the role of Snake.
