Fans of theResident Evilfranchise have hope that Capcom will announceResident Evil 9at some point soon. There were some that expected Capcom to revealResident Evil 9at the latest PlayStation State of Play event, but that came and went without any involvement from Capcom’s incredibly popular survival-horror series.
Still, theResident Evil 9announcement is just a matter of time. Capcom has releasedsomethingrelated to theResident Evilfranchise every single year since 2019’sResident Evil 2remake, withResident Evil 3dropping in 2020 alongside theResistancemultiplayer game,Resident Evil Villagereleasing in 2021, and theRe:Versemultiplayer game launching in 2022. 2023 saw the release oftheResident Evil 4remake, but so far, it seems as though 2024 is going to come and go without a newResident Evilgame.
While fans shouldn’t expect a newResident Evilgame for 2024, it’s reasonable to assume that the next game in the series could still be revealed this year, based on the frequency that the previous games hit store shelves. Those hoping for aResident Evil 9reveal are now pointing to anewly-created Metacritic pagefor the game that lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions, but provides no other information. Now, the Metacritic page doesn’t necessarily mean that anyone at the company has insider info on aResident Evil 9reveal happening soon, and so fans should keep that in mind. Still, that hasn’t stopped some from having their fingers crossed thatRE9will be unveiled at The Game Awards in December.

2024 won’t see the release of anewResident Evilgame, but it’s totally within the realm of possibility that the next game in the series will release in 2025. If so, fans shouldn’t hold their breath that such a game will be released early next year.Monster Hunter Wildshas a June 17, 2025 release date, and so ifResident Evil 9is coming next year, chances are it will be later on.
In the meantime,Resident Evil 9isn’t the only game rumored to be in development at Capcom. Reputable insiders have suggested that aResident Evil Code: Veronicaremake is in developmentin addition to a remake ofResident Evil Zero. Time will tell if there’s any truth to those rumors, but it seems that the next game in line isRE9and not a remake.
