Summary

The iconic armor ofWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2has inspired some players to bring a touch ofFalloutinto the game via special paint jobs. The customized armor sets shared with theSpace Marine 2community are based on similarly recognizableFalloutpower armor.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2is making waves in both the gaming industry and theWarhammerfan community, as the most vivid recreation yet of Games Workshop’s legendary wargame franchise. Developer Saber Interactive employed modern high-quality graphics tech to make the game look as close to theWarhammer 40,000lore as possible. Games Workshop even guided the studio whenSpace Marine 2armor designsfell short of canonical standards.

That said, lore accuracy isn’t a standard typically applied to players, who just want to express themselves. And some are usingSpace Marine 2’s armor customization system to express their affection forFallout. Players PizzaHobo6 and BusyBeeBridgette both shared customizedSpace Marine 2armor based on one of the bestFalloutpower armorsuits, the T-51b.

Custom Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Power Armor Evokes the Fallout T-51b Suit

Canonically constructed and deployed just before the outbreak of the Great War in theFallouttimeline, the T-51b Power Armor is in many ways the poster child for theFalloutseries, and appears in some capacity in everyFalloutgame and spin-off. Both players who submitted theirFallout-inspired suits chose to take otherwise standard suits ofSpace Marine 2armor and customize their colors to match the usual color scheme of the T-51b: The chest, legs, and forearms painted in U.S. Army olive drab and the head, upper legs, and lower torso in unpainted chrome or metallic gray. PizzaHobo6 used the standard issue Tactical Armor set for their take, while BusyBeeBridgette used more decorated Artificer or Relic Heavy Armor for their version, which resulted in slightly different color blocking, as well.

Players praised both players' work on bringing a touch of theFallout’s “post-nuclear” mood to the grim darkness of the far future. One comment also remarked that the use of olive drab on Astartes power armor actually evokes not justFalloutbut also a canonicalSpace Marine Chapter, the Raptor contingent of the Raven Guard. Others noted that while theSpace Marinearmor customization system allows for a good amount of variety in Space Marine armor decorations and other accessories, it isn’t quite as flexible as some other costume customization systems. They theorized that it might be due to Games Workshop and Saber Interactive not wanting to stray too far from “lore-accurate” designs.
