Summary
ThatSpider-Man 4is coming at some point, is now not an if, but a when. And while there are a few things known about the next installment in Tom Holland’s version of the character, there are a few things that seem like they need to happen in order to keep moving the story forward.
Spider-Man 4has a chance to really move the character forward. It also has a chance to move the character into a more central part of the MCU. It’s always felt like Peter Parker and his friends are on the periphery of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Partly because while he appeared in Avengers movies, Parker never really felt like an Avenger. However, there are rumors thatSpider-Man 4will take a big step inmoving away from the street-levelstories of the first two movies especially, and in order to pull that off, they’re going to need to see Holland’s Parker show some real growth and maturation.
Spider-Man 4 Should Put Away Childish Things
To some degree,Spider-Man: No Way Hometeased exactly what the the next film would involve, at least as far as Peter Parker and his friends go. The end of No Way Home has the gang finishing high school, or at least coming very close to the end and talking about where they’re going to college. As it turns out, they’re all bound for MIT. Even Flash Thompson, whomight be bringing a special guestwith him when he heads to Boston.
As it turns out, they’re all bound for MIT. Even Flash Thompson, who might be bringing a special guest with him when he heads to Boston.
Heading off to college is of course, often a way for movies and television shows to depict a new chapter in the lives of the main characters. It’s a way to show that they’ve grown up and put away their childish things. They’re on the cusp of being real adults. Certainly, when you consider the time between No Way Home andwhateverSpider-Man 4ends up being, there’s more than enough time for Parker to have matured quite a bit. It’s possible this next movie could even have the actors a few years into college, to really show that there’s been some growing up.
There’s also something to be said for the fact that neither MJ or Nedremember their adventures with Spider-Man. That could mean that there will be an extra divide between the two spider friends and Peter. He still remembers the battles he’s been through while they just remember high school. That couldallow the writers and directorto really demonstrate the difference between Tom Holland’s character and the people he fought side by side within the previous installments.
Peter Parker Has Seen Some Stuff
It’s not just that Peter remembers what happened in all the movies before Spider-Man 4. He’s also the one that went through a heck of a lot of trauma. While MJ and Ned have been by his side for the main fights in the Spider-Man movies, he’s gone off on his own adventures too. He did in fact, work for the government for a spell inCaptain America: Civil War. He went into space inAvengers: Infinity Warand, he died in that movie as well. Or at the very least, he ceased to exist. He then came back and fought thewar of all wars inEndgame, where he saved the entire galaxy.
The plot of Spider-Man 4 is currently unknown.
There is also the fact thatParker lost the personwho was closest to him. And he did it not long after he was finally able to stop having to hide what he did during his “work hours,” in Aunt May. And because May in this universe is quite a bit younger and her death was not remotely expected. Obviously he can bounce back from that, but it’s just another thing that an older Peter Parker will have to deal with. Even if it’s not a focus, it’s another thing that will help him age and mature in a way that his friends won’t.
It’s already been established that Peter is still going to have a crush on MJ, though it’s unlikely they’ll be in a relationship. There will be a desire by the filmmakers to do a kind of “will they or won’t they” storyline, but they would be well advised to not have Peter mooning over MJ the way he did in earlier installments. This Peter needs to be a more mature and more confident person. He’s been through enough that even if he’s still relatively young, he has the air of someone who is much older. That’s the most realistic way they could offer thecharacter up on the screenforSpider-Man 4. While he’s still someone who hasn’t figured everything out, he is someone who knows what’s important and how to get what he wants the way he didn’t when he was first introduced as a high school sophomore.
