Between bothStar Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderandStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, Respawn has brought Cal Kestis and many of his beloved Stinger Mantis companions to various planets and locales. No single setting has been too much like another inStar Wars Jedias of yet. Some may be more favorable than others depending on whether they’re an iconic planetStar Warsfrequents often or ifFallen OrderorSurvivorthemselves feature a compelling event there.Kashyyyk is memorable for its cinematic AT-AT sequence, for example, while the Shattered Moon is memorable for its extraordinary Rayvis boss fight.

Interestingly, the Shattered Moon also offers players the crossguard lightsaber stance as early as they decide to head there—a trend that began inStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderas players could muster the courage to endeavor through the initial section of Dathomir and obtain the double-bladed lightsaber early. Doing so is undoubtedly more difficult, though, as Dathomir immediately presents a nightmarish landscape with some of the most tediously aggressive enemies in the game. No planet inStar Wars Jedihas managed to match Dathomir’s terror, but that shouldn’t stop the series’ final entry from trying.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s Dathomir is Not for the Faint of Heart

Dathomir is a hellish planet with intriguing tribes and some of the most terrifying enemies the original game could hurl at players, perhaps aside from how big of a threat oggdos are when players first touch down onStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s Bogano. Players traverse vines in a climbing section that becomes grating to repeat after consecutive deaths, and those deaths are assured if players choose to confront the nydak that aimlessly patrols ahead.

This creature alone is a gatekeeper demonstrating how painstaking players’ journeys are about to be on Dathomir because, even if players manage to kill or evade it, they’ll be faced with an equally irritating challenge when ambushed incessantly by acid-spewing bane back spiders.

This is all to make players’ way into Dathomir, too, and is a mere aperitif before a brutal entree. Dathomir features a grueling area with a map layout consisting of claustrophobic switchbacks and a Nightbrother around nearly every corner.

Coming here as soon as Dathomir can be accessed on theStinger Mantis’ holotableis a challenge no other area inFallen Order—orSurvivorfor that matter—provides and essentially boils down to a war of attrition to see if players can make it to the end of winding corridors and reach the checkpoint shortcut before their health has been fully depleted. This early in the game, players will obviously have fewer skills unlocked, fewer stim canisters retrieved, and only the single-bladed lightsaber to depend on.

Star Wars Jedi Shouldn’t End without Contesting Dathomir’s Throne

However, eking through Dathomir’s gambit before players even visit Zeffofor the first time is well worth their trouble. First and foremost, the double-bladed lightsaber can be earned shortly beyond this checkpoint and cuts down on difficulty in the rest ofFallen Orderby a landslide, particularly with its aptitude for crowd control and the ability to automatically deflect and parry consecutive bolts.

The checkpoint players reach here introduces them toFallen Order’s Taron Malicos, and the shortcut they’ll open is a godsend for when players must inevitably return here with the double-jump Force ability.

Going toSurvivor’s Shattered Moon early is similarly advantageous as players will have a quicker ascent toward where Rayvis’ boss fight is held later in the game. Yet, the Shattered Moon is a cakewalk compared to Dathomir and can only be visited after players have already obtained all other lightsaber stances.

Survivor’s most intimidating enemies are arguably theDT-series sentry droids, though they appear in multiple settings and there isn’t a singular planet or location in the sequel that comes anywhere near to being as harrowing as the original game’s Dathomir. BecauseSurvivor’s sequel has been announced as the “final chapter” in theStar Wars Jediseries, there’s only one more opportunity for Respawn to rival Dathomir in its horror and toil.
