In a recent post on theStardew Valleysubreddit, user AlanSmithee001 tried to gather more information about JojaMart’s red-haired cashier who resolutely mans the third counter of the store from opening hour to closing time. Another user said that the NPC was a commentary on how working for big companies like the Joja Corporation drains people of their life and personality. Community member DimmyDongle pointed out that the character becomes a staff member ofStardew Valley’s Movie Theatershould the JojaMart in Pelican Town cease operations. Stardew Valley’s Mysterious JojaMart NPC

Many wondered if the JojaMart cashier stayed in Pelican Town with most ofStardew Valley’s 48 villagersor if they lived outside the area. One commenter theorized that there are residents in Pelican Town who simply never get to encounter the player. “How many towns can support a doctor’s surgery, two supermarkets, a pub, a spa, a museum and a blacksmith with under 30 residents?” user 2xtc wrote. Others, meanwhile, joked that it was naturally difficult to determine how the economy of the game’s primary setting worked because the player, a farmer, could net a quarter of a million gold per week. By 2022, the average farm household in the US had an annual net income of $95,418, according to data provided by the United States Department of Agriculture.
