After months ofteases by theSubnauticadevelopment teamon social media, Unknown Worlds and Krafton gave fans their first look at the game’s sequel. At the October 17 Xbox Partner Preview broadcast,Subnautica 2was shown in a trailer that lasted just over one minute. The trailer showed the player character, whose name remains unknown, falling to the depths of the ocean. Set on a different planet from previous games,Subnautica 2will add an online multiplayer co-op mode supporting up to four players. New tools, bases, submersibles, and lifeforms will be part ofSubnautica 2, which will enter early access in 2025 on Xbox Series X/S consoles, as well as PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows Store.

Users can wishlistSubnautica 2on each storefront to be alerted when the early access period begins in 2025. While a precise date forSubnautica 2’s early access program was not revealed,Subnautica 2confirmed thatXbox Game Pass customerswill be able to play for no additional cost. Unknown Worlds and Krafton stated thatSubnautica 2early access players may encounter bugs as development continues, but the dev team encouraged users to shape the future ofSubnautica 2with player feedback during the game’s early access period.

As one of a growing number oftitles powered by Unreal Engine 5, the environments and lifeforms ofSubnautica 2will likely be much more detailed than those seen in its predecessors. Only time will tell what unique gameplay the title will bring whenSubnautica 2begins early access.

The water teems with life: Some of it helpful, much of it harmful.After crash landing in your Life Pod, the clock is ticking to find water, food, and to develop the equipment you need to explore. Collect resources from the ocean around you. Craft knives, lights, diving gear, and personal water craft. Venture deeper and further form to find rarer resources, allowing you to craft more advanced items.Build bases on the sea floor. Choose layouts and components, and manage hull-integrity as depth and pressure increase. Use your base to store resources, park vehicles, and replenish oxygen supplies as you explore the vast ocean.
