Its negative reviews and dwindling player base sadly resulted inSuicide Squad’s development studio being hit with layoffsback in September, as the game’s poor performance reportedly cost publisher Warner Bros. a massive $200 million.
DespiteSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s dwindling player count, Rocksteady Studios has promised it will complete its previously announced roadmap, which consists of four seasons for the shooter. Unfortunately, following the release of what is likely to beSuicide Squad’s penultimate season, only 248 Steam players booted up the game on October 1 to check out Season 3, according toSteamDBand spotted byEurogamer. There’s no way to know how many players checked out the update on PlayStation and Xbox, but given the critical failure of the game, it seems unlikely to be anything impressive.
For the 248 players that did jump into Season 3, Rocksteady has added anew playable character toKill the Justice League, Lawless. Also known as Zoe Lawton, the daughter of Deadshot, Lawless is now the seventh playable character to joinKill the Justice Leagueafter it launched with just four characters: Deadshot, Harley Quinn, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang. The new season also adds a new Elseworld version of Gotham, with the famous city falling into the void after being taken over by Brainiac, it is now riddled with lava pools and destroyed buildings.
While Rocksteady certainly isn’t shying away from adding plenty of new content toKill the Justice League, the decision to make the title a live service game is, ultimately, one of the main reasons for its failure. Rumors now suggest that the studio is returning to its roots anddeveloping a new Batman gamewith PlayStation attempting to “moneyhat” the project, according to an insider.
