Summary

The24 Movieis officially happening to the delight of many fans, with 20th Century Studios andDisneycurrently in the early stages of development on the project. The creative team behind the big screen24adventure have their work cut out trying to figure out what structure to use, with the real-time format being a difficult element to adapt onto the big screen. One idea could be to make a24movie trilogy with each installment representing an eight-hour period in Jack Bauer’s bad day.

Kiefer Sutherland isn’t officially on board to reprise the iconic role ofJack Bauerin the24 Movie, but it’s fair to say that discussions will probably be taking place to get the Canadian actor on board. Sutherland has expressed a desire to play the CTU agent again, and24wouldn’t be the same without him. If the movie adaptation is a success, Disney are likely to want to expand the franchise with sequels. However,if they were to bank on the24 Moviebeing a hit before cameras start rolling, a three-movie representation of a 24-hour period might solve a lot of creative issues.

The big stumbling block that has seemingly led to many failed attempts to adapt24into a movie has been the real-time format and the difficulties surrounding it. Without thisclassic franchise element, it really isn’t24. It might be a bit of a leftfield idea, butthe upcoming24 Moviecould work on the big screen as a trilogy with events taking place in different segments of the day.So, if the first movie took place over the first eight hours of the day, there could be a brief set up before a time jump. The rest of the movie could then take place in real time, with the action unfolding in24’s typical nailbiting fashion.

The second part of the trilogy could then pick up directly after the events of the first movie, and follow Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) as he unpacks the next part of the inevitableglobal threat. There could be a couple more time jumps leading up to an action-packed finale that sets up the final eight hours of the day, which would wrap up the trilogy. Alternatively, the second movie could move even further ahead in time, and set the stage for the final entry to be the final two hours of the day, and become a full-on real-time action movie, likeclassic 90s thriller,Nick of Time. The second movie in a trilogy often provides a bridging gap between the first and last entries anyway, so more time jumps could work, as long as there’s plenty of action and not too much exposition.

One of the best aspects of the24television series was the tense cliffhangers at the end of each episode, which left fans waiting a full week before the next part of Jack Bauer’s day unfolded. If the24 Movieis a standalone entry in the franchise, it’ll be missing this key element.A trilogy taking place over the course of a 24-hour period would solve this problem and would arguably be the quintessential24that fans loved all those years ago.The movies would act like episodes, similarly to the television series in many ways. It could be argued that this approach would be too reminiscent of the series, but it would be on a much bigger scale, making it a completely different entity.

Events Occur In Real Time

Fans want to see Jack Bauer’s day unfold at a fast pace, but if it’s too fast, the24 Moviecould fail miserably, and risk becoming like every other formulaic action franchise out there. The beauty of24was that it was groundbreaking in its unique approach to storytelling. It was unlike anything that had ever been seen on television or the big screen before. This is one of the many reasons why fans have called for a24 Moviefor years.24is tailor-made for the big screen, but it needs to overcome certain creative hurdles if it’s going to be worthy of a place in the pantheon of classic action movies.
