Video game collaborations have become commonplace in recent decades, especially in competitive multiplayer titles likeStreet Fighter 6. Capcom’s premier fighting franchise has a strong history of lending out its characters to other video games, and its most recentcollaboration withDestiny 2was recently leaked on X (formerly known as Twitter). The potential crossover will feature Ghost Shells skins in the image of Ryu, Chun-Li, and Cammy. While this collab is quite cute and fun, a more intriguing and impactful one would be ifStreet Fighter 6borrowed some ofDestiny 2’s iconic characters.
TheDestinyfranchise has a long thread of crossovers, too. It started with subtle references to other games likeHaloandDark Soulsin 2014. By 2022, however,Destiny 2ramped up its collaborations with other games likeFortnite, which featured skins for Commander Zavala, Ikora Rey, and Exo Stranger. More recently, however, the game has been borrowing from other titles. With a collaboration with one of the biggest fighting franchises on the horizon, it would be interesting to seeDestiny 2lend its iconic characters to a completely foreign game genre.
How Destiny 2 Characters Could Fit Into Street Fighter 6
Street Fighter 6only recently started bringing characters from other franchises as playable units. Terry Bogard fromFatal FuryandKing of Fightersfame is the first, while Mai (from the same game series) will be released in 2025. This crossover was well-received by fans, as some were disappointed that previousSF6collaborations with titles likeTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesdidn’t feature any playable characters. The proverbial floodgates have been opened for other games to sign their characters up for the World Fighting Tournament, andDestiny 2’s cast is filled with fighters who are qualified for the job.
Commander Zavala is the Perfect Choice for a Brawler or Grappler
It would seem unfair forDestiny 2’s Guardians to bring guns into actual fistfights, so it will have to send in a character who’s good at hand-to-hand combat. Commander Zavala has shown some close-quarters battles in the past. His Prelude video even shows him blowing enemies away with a supercharged punch. This Titan would likely fit asa grappler like Zangiefor a frightening brawler like Marisa.
Ikora Rey Would Make for a Great Zoner
Guardians are likely trained for close-quarters battles, as evidenced by their different melee choices per sub-class. Perhaps the coolest ones come from Warlocks like Ikora Rey, as they can throw out projectiles using their melees. It’s not hard to imagine her as azoner like JP inStreet Fighter 6, throwing out balls of lightning and arcane needles at anyone who dares to challenge the leader of the Warlock Vanguard.
Destiny 2 Skins Would be Great for SF6, Too
If playable characters are too big of an ask, there are other ways forDestiny 2to lend its characters toStreet Fighter 6. Like with theTMNTandMonster Huntercollaborations inSF6, the game could introduceDestiny 2cosmetics. Zavala’s Titan armor would be a perfect fit for Zangief. Meanwhile, Ken’s confident personality and fast-paced playstyle make him a great candidate for a Cayde 6 outfit. Ryu and Luke’s protagonist status makes them obvious choices for the default Titan, Warlock, or Hunter Guardian skins.
While it makes sense forDestiny 2’s cast to crossover into other shooter titles, it’s far more interesting to see them outside their comfort zone — like fighting games. It would be cool to see them fight against theSF6cast using their unique skill sets. However, it may be more realistic for them to appear as fighter skins.
