There’s no doubt thatThe Legend of Vox Machinahas been one of the best-animated series to have come out in recent years. However, with Season 3, the Prime Video series reaches a whole new level and blends several new elements with utter precision. The premiere of season 3 saw the group embarking on a new journey and face new villains. The premiere sets a solid foundation for what’s to come, as Vox Machina faces one of the most formidable foes in their universe. If the first three episodes gave fans a glimpse into the group’s journey, this week’s episodes are all about Vox Machina dealing with things that they have never experienced. In the process, what viewers get is a thrilling narrative filled with a lot of drama, emotional moments, and superb battle sequences.

The third episode of season 3 ended with Vex and Percy accompanying Allura and Kima in Draconia. On the other hand, the other members of the group go through the gateway to hell to find the vestige that could help them kill Thordak. While Vax and co. are in the depths of hell and trying to find the vestige, Vex and Percy are fighting the dragon Vorugal. Both parties are in danger, but it’s a fact that whenever the team is in danger, they come together to defeat the enemy. But will they be able to do it this time around? Well, this is where the series based on the firstDungeons & Dragonscampaign gets fascinating.

The fourth episode, titledHell To Pay, sees Vax, Keyleth, Scanlan, Pike, and Grog taking a journey through Hell to find the vestige. They encounter the creatures of hell tormenting the poor souls that have been sent to hell and try to reach their destination by donning a disguise. Scanlan helps the team to look like the creatures of hell so that they can talk to the Devil. After facing some hurdles, they finally make it to the Devil and ask for the vestige that could help them in defeating Thordak. However, the Devil asks for something in return and invites one of the team members to play a game of cards. As a result, Pike steps up and plays the game with the Devil. During the game, the Devil tries implying that Pike’s goddess of light tells her lies and she shouldn’t believe her. Meanwhile, Pike uses her sharp mind to outclass the Devil in his own game and defeat him. As a result, Pike wins the game, and the team acquires the vestige. However, something evil is now chasing them and wants them dead. The episode ends on a thrilling note asthe team gets ready to face a terrifying enemy.

In episode five, titledThe Frigid Wastes, Vex, Percy, and Allura are trying to save Kima from Vorugal in Draconia. They stitch up a plan to outshine the dragon and save their friend. Although they are successful in saving Kima, the dragon doesn’t leave any stone unturned to kill them. Meanwhile, the remaining members of Vox Machina try to get out of hell and wait for the portal to open. Keyleth tries from hell to open the portal, while Kima and Allura try to open the portal Draconia and both the parties are being chased by deadly creatures. After a lot of attempts, they are finally able to open the portal and help the remaining members of Vox Machina to return to Draconia. In the process, fans get to see the power of the Vestige that Pike has acquired, and it is because of the vestige that they managed to escape. However, things get tricky when the creature from hell escapes through the portal and reaches Draconia. As soon as Vorugal sees the other creature, it attacks him and what happens next is mind-blowing. A fight ensues between the two giant creatures while all the heroes try to save themselves. The fight between the creatures is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary sequences in the show’s history and showcases that the makers aren’t shying away from taking bold routes. The fight ends with Vorugal killing the creature from hell and getting badly injured. The team takes advantage of the situation and manages to kill Vorugal. But if fans believed that Vox Machina might get some rest for a while, they are mistaken. They do get a well-needed rest, but as soon as they reach Whitestone, the situation changes drastically.

The sixth episode sees Vox Machina traveling to Whitestone to give them the happy news. However, as soon as they reach there, they find that some of Thordak’s eggs have hatched and wreaked havoc on the city. Although they save certain parts of the city and its people, the hatchlings kill several people beforethey return to Thordak. Percy is furious at what happened and wonders how the dragons made their way to Whitestone. Keyleth believes that Raishan is responsible for this and should not be trusted. Even though Raishan tries to convince the team that it is not her fault, the team makes it clear that the deal between them and Raishan is over. The entire episode is a perfect mix of epic storytelling and how having moments of tenderness can bring additional depth to a narrative.

Overall, this week’s episodes only testifies how far the show has come and how it keeps on getting better with each passing season. The animation remains top-notch and the action continues to be the show’s highlight. Interestingly, the emotional andromantic conversations between members of Vox Machinamake this story so relatable. The series never loses its grip on what it wants to show, even when it navigates through multiple plotlines and that’s the main reason why the show continues to excel in the most epic way possible. It would be interesting to see how Vox Machina is going to move forward and deal with its enemies. As of now, things are escalating and there’s no reason to believe that it’s going to be okay soon.
