While the 2002 licensed video game shares the same name as John Carpenter’s 1982 film,The Thingisn’t a video game adaptation or tie-in to the movie. It is considered a sequel to the movie, with the story revolving around Captain Blake, who is investigating the same frozen Antarctic outpost featured inThe Thing.The Thingwas a commercial success, selling over a million units worldwide. While the original game was developed by Computer Artworks,The Thing: Remasteredis being redone by Nightdive Studios, who have a track record of producing high-quality enhanced remasters and ports of games likeShadow Man,Quake 2, andDoom 64, among many others.
Nightdive Studios recently released a new trailer forThe Thing: Remastered, which briefly goes over the gameplay and story. It starts with a brief overview ofthe frozen Antarctic environment the horror game is set in, showing off how Nightdive remastered the base’s graphics and character models. Cutscenes of the game were also shown, where the player meets various NPC characters who are suspected to be infected by The Thing, along with grotesque-looking creatures for the player to shoot.

The Thing: Remasteredis looking to be anotherhigh-quality remaster from Nightdive Studios. There are some benefits depending on the platform, such as it targeting 120 FPS and 4K resolution for select versions like PC and PlayStation 5. Many of the improvements that Nightdive contributed have been made from scratch. These improvements include improved character models, higher-definition textures, and revised animations.The Thing: Remasteredalso has a set of modern lighting and atmospheric weather effects, which were also shown in this gameplay trailer.
A release date hasn’t been set yet forThe Thing: Remastered, other than a late 2024 release.The Thing: Remasteredisn’t the only horror remaster that Nightdive is releasing this year, as the developer releaseda remaster ofKilling Time Resurrected, the classic 1995 PC horror shooter, earlier this October. Nightdive Studios is also working on an Enhanced Edition of the classic first-person shooterSystem Shock 2.
