Summary
MMORPGs have always shared much of the same DNA with each other with some small twists and tweaks, andThrone and Libertyfollows that same trend. The new game from Amazon tries to match the success of other titles in the genre while also injecting something new into the formula to try and set itself apart. This is done through a handful of mechanic changes that work together to create an overall experience that does feel distinctly unique when put up against the other major MMORPG titles.
While the more experienced players can easily find a lot of the smaller details that make this game unique, there are some major ones that new players should know about before jumping into the game. It is always useful to know what a person is getting themselves into before sinking their time into a game as extensive as this one, so here are the five biggest ways thatThrone and Libertyhas made its experience a bit more unique. Note that while some other MMORPGs may have these features,Throne and Libertyputs its own spin into them that sets it apart.
4No More Classes
A New Way Of Character Creation
While most games in the MMORPG genre would have players select a class when creating their character, this game does it a little differently. Instead of choosing a class that willcome with specific abilities and weapon usages,Throne and Libertygives players the choice of choosingdifferent weapon loadouts.
Each charactercan carry two weapon types at once, and each weapon type brings different capabilities with it. The Greatsword deals high damage with slow movement while the Wand and Tome offers some small-time spells with quick usage. This is how the game has approached building characters instead of relying on the usual class and role selection from other titles.
Players Become The Mounts
While there are some big creatures thatcan be ridden in the game, it has completely done away with the traditional mount system seen in games likeWorld of Warcraft. In those games, players could unlock different animals that they coulduse to ride around the game worldto speed up the process of exploration and travel.
This game, however, chose to blend the mounts in with the characters through the Morph system. This system sees players being able totransform into various animals and creaturesto get around the map or perform certain tasks. For instance, a player can transform into a bird to traverse across a large gap or canyon, or even become a wolf to quickly get across the open areas theyneed to traverse.
A New Scale Of Battle
While many MMORPGs offerplenty of PvP scenariosfor players to dive into,Throne and Libertyhas taken this idea andramped it up even further. While other games could allow for some big battles between players, this one has a scale that hasn’t been seen in many other titles before.
This can be seen by the fact that the standard size fora guild battleis roughly two teams of 800 players fighting each other for a whopping 1600-person fight, but that can go up even further. There have been cases of 1000 players taking on 1000 players in a truly epic battle that feels right out of Tolkien. It’s the size of these battles that have caused PvP players to watch the game with a keen eye as begins its official launch.
1World Events On An Epic Scale
A Massive Event
In the same vein as what it does with PvP battles, the game is also ramping up the size ofhow players can do world events. These are specific events that occur on a server at certain times where all players can join in and complete the task at hand. While other games have always had these missions available,Throne and Libertyhas made it a massive thing.
In some world events, the game can support thousands of players joining in to complete the task together. This is a scale that israrely seen in MMORPGs, and it makes the world feel all the more alive as a result. There is nothing like working together with thousands of other people to tackle an event. While this isn’t always going to be the case when jumping into a world event, just the promise of it being possible is enough to make the excitement through the roof.
