Summary

With Halloween 2024 right around the corner, events for the holiday have been revealed forPokemon Scarlet and Violet.Instead of somewhat generic and simple themes for raid weekends, something more appropriate for the season has arrived. For players ready to tackle more Tera Raid bosses,a spooky Gengar has appearedjust in time for the haunting holiday, making the perfect time for ghoulish delight and candy collection.

For players not as tuned in to Raid events, this upcoming fight isn’t the usual strategy-required battle. While this Gengar is not a mighty Tera Raid Pokemon like thesomewhat recent Infernape fight, there are a few things players should know once this ghost type appears at the end of October. The major details about this event thankfully don’t include figuring out the mind games that often appear with these promoted Raids, since the Halloween Raid will be fairly simple. Between the somewhat weird start time and the shiny status of this Gengar, there are five things players should keep in mind before the event goes live.

Shiny Gengar Scarlet Violet

5Normal Shiny Odds

No Bonus Shiny Ghosts

Much like several Tera Raid Pokemon before, this Gengar does not feature any special shiny rarity. Tera Raids with increased shiny odds isn’t something properly seen withinScarlet and Violetso far, and this upcoming event is not anything different. While it isn’t impossible to find a slightly off-color ghost, it is definitely not something to count on, which is not further helped by the lackluster nature ofGengar’s shiny colors.

Although it would have been fun to see a shiny ghost given out in time for Halloween, the main point of this raid comes across clearly. Additionally, with the lighting effects and lack of shiny notification in Raid Dens, actually spotting the shiny could be next to impossible. Since the Tera Raid seems fairly simple so far, the battle is more geared towards fighting Gengar multiple times, which isn’t as conducive if it were a one-off shiny to collect.

4Holiday Start Day

Middle Of The Week

Unlike almost all other Tera Raid events, this Halloween Gengar does not run through a weekend; instead, it starts at the beginning of the week. Just in time for the actual Halloween holiday, this event raid starts Monday the 28 and ends on the 31.

While the time conversion means the event could possibly start later on Sunday the 27 for some players, the general day swap for the celebration duration is slightly off for those used to the standard weekend format. Players should also remember that this event ends at midnight on Halloween UTC, meaning it ends even earlier in Western time zones. AsHalloweenfalls in the middle of the week this year, however, it is certainly better for an earlier event than one too late.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Ghost Tera Type

3Ghost Tera Type

Business As Usual

Thankfully, the Tera type given to Gengar has been locked in as the ghost type, which simplifies online battles for players who still have not figured out how Tera type works for picking a Pokemon. While this does mean Gengar’s STAB moves are boosted further, it also means attacking Gengar is as straightforward as usual.

Although bringing a ghost-type Pokemon to face Gengar could work, a dark type ora Stellar-type Pokemonwould be a far safer option. It is certainly doable to complete this battle with a Pokemon that doesn’t have STAB moves against this Gengar, but it would be a lot easier to do so. Beyond that, with the difficulty of this raid Pokemon, most choices with post-game levels and mindset will work just fine.

Pokemon Scarlet Violet Raid Menu

25-Star Difficulty

Perfect For Post-Game

A distinct departure from the plans and foresight required for 7-Star Tera Raids, the Halloween Gengar event is a simple, no-problem 5-Star. While this may be challenging for those who have just finished the main game or have not properly made a dark or ghost-type Raid Pokemon, players who are prepared even in the slightest for a ghost Tera type will breeze right through.

Since the 5-Star rating means the Raid will be far simpler for players to battle, the intended farming aspect for this Halloween event is great for those needing afew extra candies.Even for players who completed the game shortly after release, having access to easy experience and ways to deal with higher-level and difficult Raids is always a plus.

1Tons Of Rare Candy Drops

Happy Halloween

As is fitting for aHalloween-themed event, the main draw for the upcoming Tera Raid event is not battling or capturing the Pokemon at the core of this fight, but rather the plentiful amounts of Rare Candy it will drop for victorious players. While leveling up Pokemon is fairly simple inScarlet and Violet, having extra Rare Candy is never a bad thing, and is easily the most convenient option.

Capturing the spirit of the holiday perfectly, receiving bonus Rare Candy has already been seen in some capacity with the various Blissey events, but with the Tera type for Gengar being locked to the ghost type, there’s a greater sense of cohesion with the event. Even with Gengar haunting the Raid menu in the near future, the candy is more than worth the fight.
