When it comes to building your character inThrone and Liberty, getting the right set of stats is one of the most important things you need to do. Each piece of gear comes with its own set of stats, but players can customize these stats even further by adding Traits.

Traits are basically substats that come randomly whenever a piece of equipment is obtained. They can improve your max health and mana, increase your odds of hitting enemies, reduce your cooldowns, and more. Getting gear with good traits may not be as important when you’re stillleveling your character inThrone and Liberty, but if you want to min-max your character in the endgame, getting Traits is something you shouldn’t ignore.

Unlocking a weapon trait in Throne and Liberty

How To Unlock Traits In Throne And Liberty

To unlock a Trait for a piece of gear, you need to get another copy of that item with a different Trait already unlocked. Then, go to the Equipment Enhancing screen, select the Trait tab, then pick the item you want to unlock a new Trait for.

In the new menu that appears, click on one of the locked Trait slots, and you should be able to see duplicate items from the window on the right. Select the one with the Trait you want to unlock, then hit the Unlock Trait button at the bottom of the screen. Doing so willdestroy the duplicate item, but its Trait will be added to the piece of gear you chose in the beginning of the process.

Upgrading a Trait in Throne and Liberty

Uncommon-rarity items and above all have one Trait unlocked by default. This includes items that you craft yourself, so don’t forget to stock up onimportant materials like Manasteelif you want to push your luck.

How To Upgrade Traits In Throne And Liberty

Upgrading Traits works almost the same as unlocking them. This time, however, all you need is another itemof the same typethat has the same Trait that you want to upgrade. It doesn’t have to be a duplicate, but the Traits themselves must be the same.

Using an item of the same rarity will always upgrade your selected Trait. If you use an item that’s of lower rarity as fodder for your main piece, then the success rate plummets to 10% (or 1% if the fodder item is two tiers lower). Failing to upgrade a Trait will build up your item’s Blessings bar — if this bar is filled, your next attempt at upgrading will be a guaranteed success.

Trait Conversion in Throne and Liberty

How To Convert Traits In Throne And Liberty

Trait Conversion works a little differently. From the same Traits tab in the Equipment Enhancement menu, you canreplace an unwanted Trait with a random oneby spending 20 Trait Conversion Stones. You can see the possible replacements and the odds of getting them in the window at the right side of the screen.

If you want toreplace a Trait with a different, more specific one, then you’ll need a duplicate item and 5 Trait Conversion Stones. This process once again consumes the fodder item, but it guarantees that you’ll get a Trait that you want.

Trait Extraction in Throne and Liberty

How To Extract Traits In Throne And Liberty

The Trait Extraction process lets yousave Traits as tokens, which you can apply to whatever piece of gear you want. To do this, you must use Trait Extraction Stones directly from your inventory. Using these stones will highlight viable items from your inventory window — pick the item with the Trait you want to extract, then click on the Extract button. This will consume the item, 5 Trait Extraction Stones, and 15,000 Sollant.

You can also sell these tokens inThrone and Liberty’sAuction House. With that said, it’s best not to dissolve or throw away any gear piece that has high-value Traits. Put them in storage in the meantime until you can extract a Trait from them.
