Summary
In the cursed world of Gege Akutami’sJujutsu Kaisen, the innate technique simply known asDomain Expansionis without a doubt one of the most creative parts of its power system. By using a barrier, the most skilled sorcerers can create their own domain where their cursed techniques are not only enhanced, but they also have a guaranteed hit on their opponents.
Not every sorcerer or curse can use Domain Expansion, but those who can have proved they have unique and fascinating ones. However, there’s a fair share of characters in the series who have confirmed they can use it, but they never got the chance to do so. This is quite unfortunate because there’s a lot of potential in their unrevealed barrier techniques that they were never able to fully display.
5Megumi Fushiguro (Complete Version)
Chimera Shadow Garden Remained Incomplete Until The End
Oddly enough,Megumi Fushiguroactually revealed his Domain Expansion during the Death Painting Arc, and its name is Chimera Shadow Garden. However, he immediately stated that it was incomplete, and he still needed to master it before he could bring out the technique’s full potential.
Megumi unleashed Chimera Shadow Garden a few more times, with his fight against Reggie Star featuring one of its most memorable uses. But the series reached its conclusion before he even got the chance to complete it. Not even Ryomen Sukuna could complete this Domain Expansion when he took over Megumi’s body, since he preferred to keep using his Malevolent Shrine instead.
The incomplete Chimera Shadow Garden let Megumi fill the area with shadows that he could use to summon multiple Shikigami at the same time. This is already quite a useful Domain Expansion, so the complete version has the potential to become one of the most powerful ones in the entire series, especially if Megumi could use it in conjunction with his strongest shikigami, Mahoraga
4Hanami
Gojo Exorcised This Cursed Spirit Before They Got The Chance To Use It
All four of the main special grade cursed spirits had the ability to use Domain Expansion: Jogo, Dagon and Mahito had really powerful ones, but sadly,Hanaminever got the chance to display their own Domain Expansion before their demise. They tried to use it in the fight against Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todo, but they were interrupted by Satoru Gojo before it could be activated. The same sorcerer later exorcised them during the Shibuya Incident Arc.
Hanami was a particularly strong cursed spirit who specialized in employing flowers and plants to fight, so their Domain Expansion could have been both unique and powerful. What’s especially fascinating is that Gege Akutami has described how he imagines it would have worked, and this description was later borrowed by the mobile gameJujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade, whichfeatures Hanami as an enemy character who can use Domain Expansion. Its name is Shining Sea of Growing Branches, and it lets them summon a beautiful field of flowers where their Solar Beam will always hit its opponents. Nevertheless,Phantom Paradeis 100% non-canon supplemental material, so there is no certainty that Hanami’s Domain Expansion would’ve worked like this in the manga.
3Ryu Ishigori
A Strong Incarnated Sorcerer With Destructive Powers
Ryu Ishigoriisa powerful sorcerer from 400 years in the past who was incarnated by Kenjakuin order to make him participate in the Culling Game. In the middle of a group battle against both Yuta Okkotsu and Takako Uro, he called out his Domain Expansion alongside them, but the simultaneous unstable barriers canceled each other out.
Later on in the Culling Game,Ryu was killed by Sukuna before he could properly display his Domain Expansion, leaving fans to wonder what it’d actually looked like and how it would’ve enhanced his innate cursed techniques, Cursed Energy Dispatch and Granite Blast.
Ryu was all about strong raw power, as he could shoot beams of concentrated cursed energy from his cannon-shaped pompadour, although his main weakness is that these beams were relatively easy to avoid. So his unrevealed Domain Expansion had the possibility of being the most helpful tool in his arsenal, especially if it let him automatically hit anyone who gets trapped in it with multiple hits of his devastating Granite Blast.
2Takako Uro
A Member Of The Fujiwara Clan With A Mind-Bending Cursed Technique
Takako Urowas yet another incarnated sorcerer who participated in the Culling Games, and her Domain Expansion was also shattered when she tried to use it at the same time as Yuta and Ryu. This is quite unfortunate, because Takako had some fascinating credentials, seeingas she was part of the Sun, Moon, and Stars Squad of the mysterious Fujiwara Clan.
On top of that, Takako’s innate cursed technique was among one of the most creative ones in the series. Simply known as Sky Manipulation, this lets her “grab” parts of the atmosphere as if it were an object, which she can use to levitate, defend herself and even attack opponents with a shattering attack named Thin Ice Breaker. While Takako was not killed like Ryu Ishigori, she was never seen after her failed attempt to use Domain Expansion. Considering how weird yet unique her cursed technique is, it’s extremely likely that her Domain Expansion would have been just as crazy, not to mention that it would have let her use Thin Ice Breaker without ever missing.
1Yuki Tsukumo
A Domain Expansion With The Potential To Be On The Same Level As Gojo And Yuta’s
This is undoubtedly the most disappointing unseen Domain Expansion in all ofJujutsu Kaisen, becauseYuki Tsukumowas one of four special grade jujutsu sorcerers, yet she never got to activate her ultimate technique before the series ended. She did confirm that she could use Domain Expansion before her battle against Kenjaku, but she was killed by this very same villain before she could do it.
Considering that Gojo’s Unlimited Void and Yuta’s Authentic Mutual Love are two of the most practical and powerful Domain Expansions in the series, it can be assumed that Yuki’s would also have been part of this prestigious group. So, its omission from the manga was met with a lot of disappointment by fans.
Yuki’s innate cursed technique,Star Rage, allows her to add virtual mass to herself and to her personal shikigami, Garuda, in order to make all of her physical attacks stronger. Furthermore, her Domain Expansion would’ve more likely let her add even more mass to herself, and maybe even alter the gravity of the trapped area, so her opponents couldn’t move. Most fans are hoping they’ll get to witness Yuki’s Domain Expansion someday, especially if Gege Akutami decides to make another story set within this world.
