Until Dawnis covered in mystery, and the best way to discover what happened on Blackwood Mountain is to find all the clues in the game. They’re separated into three streams, so you can find out what happened on the mountain in 1952, what became of the Washington twins, Hannah and Beth, and who the Psycho is that’s tormenting the group of friends.
It’s all connected, and the clues will alsogive the friends a better chanceof surviving the night. While some can be found by simply playing through the story, there are others you’ll need to go out of your way a little bit to find. While looking for clues, it’s important to remember to use the controls to turn some of them around. There are certain clues that don’t register as found if you don’t inspect them thoroughly.
If you’re ever struggling to find a clue, just look for a tiny white light shining in the area — this indicates something you can interact with.

Chapter 1 Clues In Until Dawn
There’sonly one clue to be foundin the first Chapter ofUntil Dawn, and you can find it while you’re controlling Sam. Once you’ve arrived at the cable car and have met Chris, look for aWanted poster on the side of the small building. Chris will take you around the back to show you a gun, so it will be right on the path to your left as you follow him. This clue is part of the Mystery Man line.
Chapter 2 contains a total of14 different clues.
Axe Holder Clue
When you’ve arrived at the lodge and arein control of Chris, look alongside the lodge wallwhile following Josh to find a way inside. There’s anempty axe holderhere, which is a Mystery Man clue.
Newspaper Fragment Clue
When Chris is inside the lodge alone, look fortwo doorways that lead out of the garageyou’re in. You’ll want to go through the left door first, and you’ll find a newspaper fragment on the shelf in this room.
Family Portrait Clue
After exiting the garage, look for thispicture on the wallin the hallway.
Answerphone Message Clue
When you’ve entered the lounge in the lodge, look for anarchway to the left of the kitchen doors. If you go through to this room, you’ll find an answerphone message that you’re able to listen to that gives a bit more context to the Mystery Man on the mountain inUntil Dawn.
Prom Night Photo Clue
When you walkpast the kitchen door, look for this photo on the table right next to it.
If you’re not sure where the kitchen door is, it’s the only closed door on the first floor of the living room, and you won’t be able to open it right now.
Beach Photo Clue
Head downstairs into the basement. You can find this photoon a table next to the theater doors, just ahead of the stairs you walk down.
Film Trophy Clue
Now, go upstairs and head to thebalcony that overlooks the living room. You’ll find this trophy on a shelf tucked away next to some books.
Cigar Stub Clue
This clue will only come later,while you’re in control of Mikeand you’ve jumped into the mine with Jess. Just follow the path, and look for a small room on the right side just before you exit the mine. Thestub is on a barrelin here.
Mystical Symbol Clue
In the same room where you found the cigar stub,look at the back wall—The Mystical Symbol is painted there.
Danger Map Clue
Continue following the main path to get out of the mine, but look to your right tofind a table with a mapon it first.
Post Card Clue
The next clue can be foundwhen you take control of Samjust before she gets into her bath. Once you exit the bathroom, hang left andgo inside Hannah’s room. You can find the postcard on her bedside table.
Tattoo Card Clue
Also in Hannah’s room, you can find the tattoo cardon the dresseracross from her bed.
Compatibility Test Clue
For the third and last clue in Hannah’s room, you need to go to the back andlook in her closet. You can walk inside this small room and find the test lying on the floor.
Second Cigar Stub Clue
When you take control of Matt, make sure to turn around and head up the same pathway Chris and Josh walked on to find anentrance to the lodge. There’s a new clue here — a second cigar stub — which can befound in some snownear the lodge wall.
In Chapter 3 ofUntil Dawn,there areseven clues to be found.
Old Mask Clue
The first clue in Chapter 3 can be found while you’re in control of Mike and finding a way to the cabin with Jess. There’s a smallbroken down hut near a stream. Go inside and find the Old Mask on a shelf inside.
Native American Book Clue
Once you’ve reached the cabin with Jess, look for this book on a small tablenext to the fireplace. It’s on the side closest to the cabin window.
Tennis Photo Clue
Before youlight the fire for Jess,go into the kitchen and turn left. This photo can be found at the end of the hallway on a table.
Hannah’s Glasses Case Clue
You can only find this clue when you take control of Ashleyafter performing the seance. Before heading downstairs with Chris, turn around and go to the end of the small corridor to find Hannah’s glasses caseon a table.
Light From Below Clue
Go downstairs with Chris and look for this light in the room justbefore you enter the library. It’s to your left as you enter, on the ground.
Portrait Photo & Threatening Letter Clues (Unmissable)
Thankfully, both of these clues areimpossible to missas they’re part of the story. You’ll find it when you take control of Chris and enter the secret doorway in the library.
Native American Letter Clue
While in control of Chris, enter the door that opens by itself after you discover the previous clues. When you reach the end of the corridor, look for asmall table on your left. The letter is on this table.
Chapter 4 Clues In Until Dawn
Like the first chapter, there isonly one clue to findin Chapter 4 ofUntil Dawn. you’re able to find this clue while in control of Chris, who’s looking for Ashley. Follow the snowy path until you see aleft fork. Turn into this area, watch out for the jump scare, and find thepig’s headlying on the ground in plain sight.
Chapter 5 contains16 cluesfor you to find inUntil Dawn.
Administration Notes Clue
While in control of Mike, you will find yourself in theold Sanitoriumon the mountain. When you get inside, look for a smalltable next to the main entrance. The administration notes can be found here.
You might need to backtrack a bit before finding them, because a cutscene will play immediately when you first enter the building. Wait for the cutscene to end and then look for the clue.
Clocking-In Cards Clue
When you enter the admin wing, take a left andlook for a safe. There’s a wooden board next to it, and you’ll need to pick this board up and use it to open the safe. The clock-in cards are inside.
Broken Camera Clue
On theleft side of the admin room, just after you leave the room with the safe, you can find the broken camera on a small set of drawers. It’s on the opposite side of the door that you need to walk through to move forward.
Old Newspaper Clue
When you go through the doors from the admin area, look for an entrance to anold and broken-down officein the corridor ahead of you. Head inside the office and find the old newspaper on a desk.
Medical Notes Clue
Before you head down the stairs into the morgue, look foranother dilapidated office. Head inside and find some medical notes on a desk inside.
Restraining Chair Clue
Once you’ve reached the morgue andgrabbed the machete, head to your right into asmaller room. There are somegreen curtainsyou can pull back to find a restraining chair behind them.
Telegram About Miners Clue
Backtrack past the bed where you pick up the machete and move forward through the building. At one point, you’ll see awolf’s shadowrun across the corridor ahead, which is the way forward. Before you go into the corridor, look for asmall room to your rightto find the miner’s telegram on a table inside.
Strange Skull Clue
Once you’ve passed the creepy hand sticking out of the table, look at theshelves in the morgue room. You’ll find a strange skull on these shelves.
Name Tag Clue
There’s asingle cold chamberyou can open on the long side of the morgue wall. Open it to find a name tag inside.
Death Certificate Clue
There aretwo more cold chamberson the other side of the room you can open. One will contain the security tag you need to move forward, while theother will contain a death certificateclue.
Clippings Wall Clue
After you meet the wolf and enter the chapel, look to your right to find anopen gate. The clippings wall is in this small side room.
Cigar Box Clue
In themiddle of the chapel, you can find a cigar box with a single cigar inside on a small table next to some chairs.
Miner Rescue Photo Clue
When you find your way out of the chapel, and before you head down the long staircase, look for a miner rescue phototo the right and back of this large room.
Axe Clue (Unmissable)
While in control of Matt, he’ll walk with Emily toward the cable car station to try and find a way out. You’ll find the axelodged in the dooras part of the story.
Beth’s Phone Clue
After you cross the walkway outside and reach a large opening and the top of the hill, turn left to spot acovered bridge. Head toward and through the bridge to find Beth’s phonehidden underneath the wooden planks.
Business Card Clue
you’re able to find this clue aftertaking control of Samwhen she leaves the bath. Follow the balloons down to the main floor and navigate to thefront door of the lodge. You would have also walked past this area with Chris in Chapter 2 — the business card ison a small table next to the front door.

Hannah’s Poster Clue
When you reach thetop of the ranger toweras Emily, look for Hannah’s missing poster in a locker in the room.
Beth’s Poster Clue
Once you’ve switched the power to the ranger tower on outside,look for the printerand interact with it to print out Beth’s missing poster.
Hidden Camera Clue
you’re able to find this clue when you resume control of Ashley in the basement. After you’ve examined the doll house and go through the door that opens by itself (watch out for the jump scare), you can find the camerahidden behind some boxes to your immediate right.
Lightbulb Catalog Clue
In the same area where you found the camera, look for the lightbulb catalogon a long table.
You need toflick through the catalog pagesto get the clue.
Faked Newspapers Clue
You need to go through the secret hotel for a while longer before you find the faked newspapers. Look for a room with two pillars, just after Chris and Ashley have a chat. The newspapers can befound in the back corner of this area.
Batteries & Timers Clue
Just after you find the newspapers, you’ll head through a doorway and hear some strange electrical noises.Look to your leftto find the noises coming from batteries set to timers.
Hooks & Chains Clue
When you enter thehotel kitchen, you’ll be met with some pretty grisly scenes. The first is a set of hooks and chains along the wall just next to the kitchen door.
After you’ve checked out the hooks and chains,look to your rightto find a dead pig hanging from a chain hook.
Photos Of Friends Clue
This clue can be found dead ahead of you when you first enter the kitchen. Look for asmall cork boardthat has pictures of all the friends inUntil Dawn.
Chapter 7 contains16 clues to find.
Death Machine Plans Clue
When you resume control of Sam after she escapes the Psycho, look immediately to your left (behind you)when you exit the tunnel. You’ll need topull up a flap of paperon a cork board to find the death machine plans.
Josh’s Cellphone Clue
You would have now entered what seems to be the Psycho’s workshop with Sam. Look for Josh’s Cellphone on thefarthest metal shelves, in between some boxes.
Psychiatric Report Clue
Immediately to your right from where you found Josh’s phone, look for adesk with a drawer you may open. The report is inside.
Remembrance Board Clue
At the back of the roombefore you go through the exit, you can find a Remembrance Board of the twins.
Voice Recordings Clue
When you see a door that Sam can peak through to see what the Psycho is up to, look for voice recordingspast the small set of stairs.
Dummy With Sam’s Clothes Clue (Unmissable)
This is the same dummy that Chris and Ashley saw earlier, and nowSam can investigate it as a clue. You can’t miss it when you enter the room.
Video Camera Clue
Right next to the dummy, you’ll also find a video camera on a tripod.
Miner Photo Clue
This can be found when you take control of Emily in the mines. You need to release a mining cart to break open the door and move forward, but before you do, open agreen trunk next to the cartto find this photo.
Clocking-In Machine Clue
In the room you enter after sending the mining cart through the door, look for the Clocking-In Machine on the far side. It’sto the left of the ladder you need to climbto reach the electrical box upstairs.
Miner’s Family Photo Clue
Right after you slide down the tunnel with the skeletons and skulls, look for atiny cave-in to the right. There’s asmall lockboxcontaining the family photo.
Hannah’s Glasses Clue
Right next to the snowy cliff is a bunch ofbroken wooden boards. You can find Hannah’s glasses between these boards.
Tattoo Photo Clue
Hannah’s tattoo photo can befound on some oil canistersdirectly opposite her glasses in the same room.
Marks On The Rock Clue
Right next to the broken wooden boards where you found Hannah’s glasses, look for somemetal sheets lying against a large rock. Move the sheets aside to find the marks on the rock.
Beth’s Cross Clue
Continue up the path out of the cave where you found the previous clues, but before you enter the rock archway,turn right into a small areathat’s easily missable. Beth’s cross is at the end of this small area.
Hannah’s Locket Clue
Before you pull the gate open to go back to the room with the elevator, walk straight until you can’t anymore. You’ll find Hannah’s locketon some oil drums, butmake sure to shake itso it can open and the clue registers as found.
After finding the locket and sliding the metal gate open, Beth’s head willappear in a cutsceneand count immediately as a clue.
Chapter 8 ofUntil Dawncontainsonly two clues to find.
Romantic Post Card Clue
You’ll still be playing as Emily when you find this clue. After the stranger knocks her down and hands her the flare, look for adilapidated shack where she falls. The postcard is inside.
Intro, Cannibalism, History, Combat, & Bite Clues
All five of these clues can befound while Ashley looks through the stranger’s book. Make sure to turn the pages left before moving on to get the Intro clue.
Chapter 9 containsfive clues to discover.
Makeshift Graveyard Clue
Playing as Mike and back at the chapel again, look fortwo gatesthat were not previously openable. Go through thegate on the rightand through the building until you end up outside, and you’ll find the makeshift graveyard.
Doctor’s Report Clue
After going down the first flight of stairs in the psych ward, there’s a small room on the left with a sign above it spelling out ‘Detention.’ Look inside this room to find the doctor’s report.
Old Film Reel Clue
After you force open a gate and follow the wolf down another set of stairs, turn left before following it forward. There’s an entirely new wing to explore here. Firstly, look for aroom on the left side of the corridorwith anold camerainside, and inspect it to find the film reel.
Case Study Dossier Clue
Further down this corridor,look for another room on the right. Inside you’ll find a desk you can interact with. The case study dossier is inside.
Suicide Note Clue
In the room where you found the dossier, look forwooden boards with a light shining throughat the end of the room. Push through them andshoot the lock on the doorto find a body holding a note.
Chapter 10 Clues In Until Dawn
Chapter 10, the final chapter ofUntil Dawn, hastwo clues to find.
Beth’s Watch Clue
Playing as Sam, and before you get into the water with Mike, follow asmall path to the leftto find a dug-up grave containing Beth’s watch.
Scrawled Journal Clue
Once you’re in the water, look for aledge on your left next to the water wheel. Climb up on this ledge to find a makeshift diary Hannah kept while she was stuck in the mines.
With that, you should have found all the clues inUntil Dawn. This will unlock the full mystery of the mountain and reveal exactly what happened to Beth and Hannah, and you’ll get all the achievements that come with finding them all.
