Summary

Cameron Lee, who joined Ubisoft back in 2022 as the Vice President of theRainbow Sixfranchise, has reportedly departed from the company. A new report claims a reason for Lee’s departure from theRainbow Sixfranchise and Ubisoft is unknown, but an internal email to the company supposedly states that one of Ubisoft’s most popular franchises will be left without a Vice President and Executive Producer for the time being.

With over 20 years of experience in the gaming industry, Lee has worked at some of the biggest studios around. He became a well-known name in the industry when he began working at EA as a Lead Producer on titles such asDead SpaceandThe Godfather, and would later go on to joinBioware before eventually departing for Bungie in 2016. Lee then became Vice President of Production for Activision in 2019 but would leave the role in 2022 to join Ubisoft’sRainbow Sixfranchise as Vice President and Executive Producer. But a new report now suggests Lee could be gearing up to announce a new role after almost three years at Ubisoft.

A new report fromInsider Gaming, which claims to have seen an internal email from Ubisoft, states that Cameron Lee has departed Ubisoft Montreal after only being there for a little under three years. The report does not offer any reason for Lee’s sudden departure, but claims that Ubisoft isn’t in any rush to replace the ex-Vice President as an email sent to staff states that the role will not be replaced “for the time being.” After working on titles such asCall of Duty, Lee seemed like a perfect fit to keep theRainbow Sixfranchise as one of the best tactical shooter series around, so the executive’s shocking leave could be a huge blow for Ubisoft.

Rainbow Six Franchise Left With No Vice President

WhileRainbow Six Siegecontinues to break records, the series as a whole has been carried by the popular first-person shooter for many years. A spin-off,Rainbow Six Extraction, was released in 2022 but failed to captivate players in the same manner thatSiegedid when it launched in 2015. When Lee joined the company in 2022, Ubisoft said that the Vice President and Executive Producer would “be responsible for creating the long-term brand strategy for theRainbow Sixfranchise,” suggesting that the studio had plans for the series outside of justSiege.

After making clear intentions to continue to build on the famousfranchise, a reliable leaker took to Twitter earlier this month to tease thepotential new name of the nextRainbow Sixgame. Although fans were eager for a new mainline game in the series, the leaker would later go on to disappoint fans and reveal that the title would be a sequel toRainbow Six: SMOL, a top-down rogue-lite game only available on mobile devices via Netflix Games.
