Summary

It was about this time of year in 2022 thatWerewolf by Nightlaunched on Disney+ and ever since the original movie hit the streaming service, fans have been wondering when they can expect a sequel. Earlier this month, the people behind the original talked about how close aWerewolf by Night 2might be, and how hard they were working to make it a reality.

While not officially part of theMCU, Werewolf by Night isone of the most beloved entriesin the Marvel Cinematic Universe because it had such an original feel to it. Michael Giacchino, the acclaimed composer-turned-director, understands the demand. Still, he also knows that there’s been quite a bit of “recalibrating” in the MCU and the movie business in general. Still, knowing that he’s optimistic about the chances for a sequel in the not-too-distant future.

Werewolf By Night 2 Will ‘Get There’ Eventually

Speaking on a videothat was supposed to be aboutThe Penguin&Fantastic Four’smusic choices, he, along with his son, touched on the status ofWerewolf by Night 2. When talking about the “recalibration” he’s seen in the industry, he admitted that he things there are certain projects that have had to be set aside. However, he doesn’t believe that his Marvel Halloween-themed special is being thrown entirely on the trash heap. He believes that Marvel will eventually return to that world, it’s just hard to know exactly when that may be. “We’ll get there,” he optimistically finished the segment with.

Werewolf by Night was a special project released on Disney+ that stood out because it wasn’t about superheroes or supervillains. At least not those who wear tights and a cape, or don a shield to fight crime. Set at Bloodstone Temple, theblack-and-white streaming specialfollowed a secret cabal of monster hunters who are in attendance to compete for a powerful relic. The special also stood out because it was all in black and white, attempting to evoke the feeling of the old-school monster features like the originalWolfman.

There is also the fact thatWerewolf by Nightwas the first entry that was a horror movie. While Marvel has promised it would do more of that, so far it’s largely stayed away from that direction. There have been horror aspects inWandavision,Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessandAgatha All Alongbut the company hasn’t leaned into straight horror since that special launched.

The success and popularity ofWerewolf by Nightalso led many people to think that if it wasn’t going to be an annual sort of installment that the sequel would almost certainly have landed by 2024. Instead, there isn’t even an inkling that production or casting has begun. In fact, it doesn’t appear there is even a script in the works at the moment. It is possible as the new MCU starts to solidify and gel, that Marvel will be able to turn its attention to other things such as this project. That’s likely when they’ll finally be able to “get there.”
