Right off the heels of its Ashlands expansion,Valheimis getting itself another update. Rather than adding a new biome, though,Valheim’s upcoming content drop will focus on adding some depth to one of its existing pillars.
Despite having already claimed a domain in pop culture,Valheimis still going steady in early access. Iron Gate Studio’s consistent delivery of polished updates to the title has not only been hugely beneficial forValheim, but for early access as a whole. The game feels like a full experience despite being incomplete, and that aspect has elevated the respect given to the early access model in general.
Valheim’s Next Update Will Update Cooking And Farming, With A New NPC For Good Measure
Valheim’s next update has been revealedduring a recent developer livestream—and it’s not the addition of the Deep North. Though the addition of that next biome is in pre-production, the game’s next update (which will be arriving in the public test branch within the next few weeks) will focus more on quality-of-life additions. This part of the update will focus on big improvements to food, adding not only a boost to its depth but also the ways it can aid multiplayer. As well as these enhancements, a new NPC will be coming toValheim: the Bog Witch. This ingredient vendor will help players with brewing potions and cooking hearty feasts.
Farming And Cooking Improvements
Cooking is key toValheim’s next update, with many of its features revolving around that aspect. One way in which cooking will be improved is through Feasts. Feasts will be a new form of cooking that serves multiple portions, can be placed directly onto tables, and will provide long-lasting benefits (albeit slightly different benefits when compared to regular food). According to a press release from Iron Gate, eight new Feasts will be made available when the update launches. Moreover, a Prep Table workstation will be added; fewer recipes will be available via the cauldron, with some moving over to the Prep Table.
Cooking, crafting, and farmingare all parts ofValheimthat are set to receive new skills. Furthermore, on the subject of farming, a scythe will be added to the game. The scythe will allow farming fans to harvest multiple crops at once, which is a long-requested feature amongValheim’s player base. Given the new dishes being made available through the Feast system, this improvement to farming couldn’t be timed more perfectly.
The Bog Witch
Deep withinValheim’s swamp biomewill soon lie a new NPC vendor. The Bog Witch, who the press release states will have the visage of a Greydwarf, is the key to this update. She’ll sell the player potions, potion ingredients, and other supplies. During the stream that revealed this update, developers also alluded to the fact that the Feast system will be made available through the Bog Witch. The stream also mentions that, among the new potions brought in alongside the witch, a love potion will be coming toValheim.
A new NPC isan exciting development forValheim, especially given their relative scarcity. Few creatures within the game aren’t there to hunt or be hunted, so another friendly (or at least neutral) face is welcome. Furthermore, the Bog Witch serves as a pathway not only to the exciting Feast system, but a variety of other consumables. “Tonics, Meads, and Draughts,” likely the potions in question, are mentioned within the press release—and those sold by the Bog Witch will enhance the strength, dexterity, and endurance of players. The press release also mentions that players should avoid “the broom,” though what this truly means is currently unknown.
