Grand Theft Auto 6has a great online formula to build off of, but should ignore one ofGrand Theft Auto 5’s decisions. Given how bigGTA Onlineturned out to be, it would be no surprise to see it return inGrand Theft Auto 6. Vice City will surely be able to deliver the same amount of entertainment to players that Los Santos did in that sense. Not everything aboutGrand Theft Auto Onlinewas handled as well as it could have been, though. There is at least one area whereGrand Theft Auto 6can improve substantially.
The continuedupkeep ofGrand Theft Auto Onlinemore than a decade after release is rather impressive. Doubly so considering that it’s effectively an offshoot ofGrand Theft Auto 5’s main game.Grand Theft Auto Onlinehas always had missions to keep players entertained, but it has grown substantially since release.GTA Onlineis now full of properties to buy, jobs to pursue, and events for players to take part in. All of that is before factoring in the massive amount of vehicles available to players.Grand Theft Auto Online’s massive amount of content leaves a strong legacy forGTA 6to follow.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Should Fix GTA Online’s Lackluster Character Creator
Creating a Character is a Perk of GTA Online
As can be seen from thelarge community ofGTA Onlineroleplayers, the ability to create a character inGrand Theft Auto’s world is a big perk. There is so much in the game that players can use to develop their own view of their characters. They can live in a penthouse and drive luxury cars, be a walking armory riding a motorcycle, or any number of options. The sheer amount of options give players the ability to build up their characters however they want. Despite this wealth of depth, there is one area whereGrand Theft Auto Onlineseriously dropped the ball.
GTA Online’s Character Creation Mechanic is Convoluted and Imprecise
A hurdle appears at the very start of the game withGrand Theft Auto Online’s character creation. Rather than letting players design their protagonist’s features directly, instead the game has a system where they choose the character’s parents from a list. From there, theGTA Onlineprotagonist’s features are created from a combination of both parents. This approach has the obvious downside of giving the player less control over their character’s face, which can be particularly frustrating for those with a firm vision for their character’s appearance. It’s no surprise thatGrand Theft Auto’s competitors have not tried to recreate its online character creator.
GTA 6 Can Fix GTA Online’s Character Design Issue
There is one obvious way to changeGTA 6’s character creation for the better. IfGrand Theft Auto 6’s online modefeatures a more traditional character creator, the issues fromGTA 5’s version would likely be removed completely. A more traditional character creator would provide players with the kind of precision thatGTA Online’s original creation system sorely lacked. That alone would fix an otherwise-unavoidable issue. The character creator wouldn’t even need to offer outlandish options like whatSaints Row 4did. Simply giving players a better way to build their online character’s appearance would be more than enough forGTA 6.
It’s no surprise thatGrand Theft Auto’s competitors have not tried to recreate its online character creator.
Grand Theft Auto Onlineis undoubtedly a success, but its character creator’s biggest flaw is impossible to miss. There are many ways forGTA 6to avoidGTA 5’s mistakes, andGTA Onlineis a good place to start. The awkward creation system is something that everyGTA Onlineplayer will experience, making for an awkward first impression. Establishing a less convoluted way of determining a character’s appearance feels like a natural decision. By making it easier to design characters,Grand Theft Auto 6’s online component could be a big step up.
