Summary

Destiny 2’s Onslaught mode has officially been around for over six months now, providing players with one of the most distinctive activities in the game yet. Now, with the arrival ofDestiny 2’s second Episode, titled “Revenant,“Onslaught has received an array of new features and an all-new mode, Onslaught: Salvation.

Destiny 2’s new Onslaught content might be considered a bit of a mixed bag because it introduces several new features but also doesn’t offer much in terms of rewards. However, everything new introduced to Onslaught in Episode: Revenant arguably outweighs the bad, making it more of a lopsided mixed bag than anything else.

Destiny 2’s New Onslaught Content Has Its Ups and Downs

Destiny 2’s Latest Onslaught Content Includes New Maps, New Enemies, and New Defenses

Destiny 2’s new Onslaught: Salvation iteration isn’t the only thing new about the popular game mode, as it brings with it several new maps and enemies. Firstly, Onslaught: Salvation features both the Scorn andShadow Legion Cabalas enemies. Secondly, the new Onslaught: Salvation mode brings with it three new maps: Widow’s Court, Eventide Ruins, and Kell’s Grave. Each map provides a different experience based on its layout, since Onslaught largely depends on the map’s composition for the placement of the ADU and the defenses players can set up around it.

Currently, Eventide Ruins is the easiest map, as its Expert difficulty is capped at 2010 rather than 2065, but some players might find Widow’s Court to be easier due to their familiarity with the map from the Crucible playlist.

Finally,Destiny 2’s Onslaught: Salvation mode includes new defenses for players to take advantage of as well. There’s a new mountable turret that features Scorching rounds when fully upgraded, so it pairs nicely with aDestiny 2Solar build. Additionally, there is another defense that allows players to establish an area that will trigger an air strike once enemies enter the zone. Finally, Onslaught’s tripwires have also been enhanced.

All in all, plenty of new features have been added to Onslaught inDestiny 2with the arrival of Episode: Revenant. The new maps and defenses are especially welcome, as they add a freshness to the mode it has needed since its addition withDestiny 2’s Into the Light update. Unfortunately, they are mostly balanced out by a downside that some players might even consider to be a dealbreaker.

Destiny 2’s Onslaught Grind Is Underwhelming Compared to Past Rewards

One of the main things that originally madeDestiny 2’s Onslaught mode so worthwhile was theBRAVE Arsenal of weaponsthat were available with the Into the Light update. This collection included various fan-favorite weapons fromDestiny 2’s past, each of which was visually reprised and given a new Origin Trait and perk pools. By playing plenty of Onslaught, players could obtain weapons from the BRAVE Arsenal until they acquired the rolls of their choice. Additionally, there was potential for players to obtain “shiny” versions of the weapons, which came fully Masterworked and had a half-gold appearance.

The latest Onslaught content doesn’t leave players empty-handed, but the rewards are underwhelming compared to the BRAVE Arsenal offered with Into the Light. Instead of having a unique selection of weapons available as rewards for playing Onslaught: Salvation, players can only obtain different rolls ofEpisode: Revenant’s seasonal weapons. That being said, there is a chance to obtain a “shiny” version of these weapons, though they are only Masterworked and are no different in their appearance.

WhileDestiny 2’s latest Onslaughtcontent is a bit of a mixed bag, at least it leans more heavily on the positive side of things with new enemies, new maps, and new defenses. It’s also worth considering thatDestiny 2may add more weapons for players to farm Onslaught for in the future, so it might be best not to write it off too quickly.
