Summary
TheInvinciblemovie is still in development, and new artwork by a fan-favorite digital artist casts Will Ferrell as the live-action Omni-Man. This may seem a strange and questionable fan casting choice, but reactions to the image of Ferrell as Omni-Man have been surprisingly positive.
Prime Video’sInvincibleseries, based on the comic book series of the same name, has been successful for the streamer. Still, alive-actionInvinciblemovieis in development at Universal, which will exist separately from the Prime Video series. Naturally, fans have their expectations for who should be cast in theInvincibleroles, and one of the most important characters in Omni-Man. Now, fan art combines one of Ferrell’s most memorable comedy roles with Omni-Man to create a convincing rendition of the actor as the character.
BossLogic–real name Kode Abdo–unveiled the artwork of Ferrell in costume as Omni-Man. Abdo used Ferrell’s appearance as Ron Burgundyfrom thesatirical comedyAnchormanmoviesto give him Omni-Man’s signature mustache. If there was any doubt of the artist’s intention, Adobe included the caption, “You stay classy, Viltrum. And Goodnight,” a variation of Burgandy’s “You Stay Classy, San Diego” catchphrase.
Because Omni-Man could be characterized as a ‘serious’ role, Ferrell likely isn’t fans' first choice to play the character. While Ferrell has delved into dramatic roles in films such as the comedy-dramasStranger Than FictionandEverything Must Go, he is still primarily known for playing comedic characters, some of which have been described as the “man-child” archetype. Still, many fans responded to the image positively, admitting the artwork convinced them. “Funny enough this could actually work. If Will Ferrell wouldn’t mind hitting the gym,” wroteChris Henderson. Of course, not everyone thought the fan-casting choice was good. However, Instagram user @gingershmoodyargued that Ferrell’s reputation as a comedian would effectively surprise audiences whenOmni-Man’s true nature is revealed. “Lowkey seeing a violent Will Ferrel would be so surprising and honestly fit the twist at the end of the first episode,” they explained.
Any casting decisions won’t be made soon because theInvinciblemovie is still far from hitting the silver screen.Invinciblecreator Robert KirkmantoldThe Directthat the film will be in development “for a while longer” so they can ensure the movie will be as good as possible. In the meantime, fan artists like BossLogic will likely continue providing fans with artwork that imagines what theInvinciblecharacters could look like in a live-action movie to keep the conversation alive.
