Summary
In what has been a spate of updates about movies and television shows in the MCU, James Gunn seems to have confirmed that theWonder Womanprequel seriesParadise Lost, is making progress in becoming a real thing. If his recent comments are anything to judge by, the show is moving forward, though there isn’t any sort of timeline out there yet.
The news of theWonder Womanprequel series, set in Themyscira, appears to be the first small detail since the show was announced last year. However, Gunn’s comment leaves plenty to be desired and plenty to be read into as he seemingly purposely went out of his way to be unspecific about how much the show is moving forward. There is even some question as to what the DCU chief was actually referring to.
Paradise Lost Is Apparently Moving Forward
Over on the social media siteThreads, Gunn answered several followers' questions, including divulging that he was storyboarding thesecond season ofPeacemakerwhile reading notes onSuperman: LegacyandCreature Commandos. During the thread, one of the followers asked if there was any progress on Wonder Woman orParadise Lost. Gunn responded simply, “yes.”
Gunn responded simply, “yes.”
It would appear that Gunn’s response to the question wasregardingParadise Lostbecause, as of now, there haven’t been any announced plansfor how the DCUwill use Wonder Woman. There hasn’t been any indication in fact, that Wonder Woman is going to be a part of the new DCU, though it certainly seems as if that’s a no-brainer at some point. Gal Gadot claimed earlier this year that she was in fact, returning as the popular DC Comics character but it was never confirmed by anyone who is working in the Gunn’s cinematic universe.
There isn’tmuch known aboutParadise Lostother than thatit is set in Wonder Woman’s home years before the superhero was born. It would appear that means the show will introduce several new characters that were never met in the DCEU and that the Amazons which were featured in the two Wonder Woman movies before Gunn took over the DCU. There has been quite a bit of interest in the character’s place of birth of late as aWonder Woman game is reportedlyin development by Monolith that might be set there, or have some scenes take place there as well.
What is known about the Wonder Woman prequel is that it’s supposed to be a kind ofGame of Thrones-type series, which would seem to indicate there will be some sort of battle of control of Themyscira. Once the audience meetsDiana and the rest of the Amazons, there is definitely a hierarchy established for who controls the thrown. It’s possible this new series will show exactly how Diana’s mother ascended to ruler of her realm. Or the show could be set even beforeWonder Woman’s mother became the queen of this hidden tribe of women that went to great lengths to avoid interactions with the outside world.
