Summary

World of Warcrafthas reduced the amount of Timewarped Badges earned by completing the weekly quests on alts during Timewalking events. This change was made in response to the Warbands system inWorld of Warcraft, and will be carried forward into all future Timewalking weeks.

Timewalking is a recurringWorld of Warcrafteventthat lets players tackle old dungeons and raids at the same level as they are while earning rewards and experience. Every expansion fromBurning CrusadethroughLegionhas a Timewalking event right now, each of which features a vendor full of mounts, pets, toys, reputation badges, and Timewarped gear that scales to the character’s current level.

However, collecting the Timewarped Badges used at these vendors just got a lot harder. Previously, each character who completed a Timewalking dungeon or raid during an event could complete a quest that awarded 500 Timewarped Badges each. Now, this hefty reward is only given to the first character on an account to complete these quests – subsequent characters who do so will only earn 300 badges for the raid quest and 200 from the dungeon quest, halving the effectiveness of Timewalking on alts.

According to Blizzard, the main reason for this change is the Warbands feature. Timewarped Badges can now be freelytransferred to other characters on aWorld of Warcraftaccount, allowing players to easily amass alot of the currency in one place. Reducing the efficiency of getting Timewarped Badges on alts makes it feel less required to play on multiple characters, while still allowing those who do to amass a modest amount of currency relatively quickly.

While the logic behind the change is sound,World of Warcraftfans aren’t happy about it. Being able to amass tons of Timewarped Badges was half the fun of Timewalking events, and many believe reducing the currency rewards from doing so is needlessly punishing. Blizzard did say it was actively watching howWarbands inWorld of Warcraftinteracts with Timewalking, and that it may adjust these numbers again in the future, but for now, players will have to adapt to this new Timewarped Badge income.

This change also came at one of the worst times imaginable.World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary event starts on October 22– and a brand-new Classic Timewalking event is one of its major events. With tons of new items to buy using Timewarped Badges, fans will have to work that much harder if they hope to collect them all.
