Summary

A section ofXboxfans seem to be upset with a small but noticeable design change in the new all-white, disc-less Xbox Series X. The new design philosophy opted forXbox Series X’s digital variant doesn’t just invert the base color of the original console but also makes another subtle change to its looks.

Thedigital edition of the Xbox Series X hit the shelves on October 15, offering more options for potential buyers to choose from. Besides this one, a special edition 2TB Series X console and a new 1TB Series S console were also released. The digital Series X is the second all-digital Xbox Series console to come out this generation, after the Series S, both of which sport the Robot White color scheme. Besides ditching the Carbon Black color scheme of the original Series X, its new counterpart also ditches a certain color accent present in the original.

On Reddit, a post highlighting the lack of green accents in the top grill of the new Series X console has been gaining traction. Players have been debating how this change from the original Series X model affects the overall aesthetic appeal of thedisc-less Series X. While a few fans have voiced their opinion against the change, others think the absence of the green accents suits the new console’s Robot White color scheme. Opposing the deviation from the original grill colors, a user said, “It would’ve been nice” if the green accents had been retained. However, a majority of other Xbox fans felt that the new Series X design looks good the way it is. Supporting the move, one of them wrote, “Honestly green on white would have looked weird.”

New Xbox Series X Tweaks the Original’s Grill Design

The green accent-less top grill in the new Series X is something that fans have seen for the first time, even though the Robot White color scheme has existed on the Series S ever since the initial launch of Xbox Series consoles. That’s because, despite having the same color scheme,Xbox Series S’s physical features differ significantly from the Series Xand the former doesn’t have a top grill like the latter does. Moreover, the decision to ditch the green accents seems fitting, keeping in mind that the same color scheme on the Series S doesn’t have any green elements either.

It’s worth nothing that two of the three new Series consoles released by Xbox come without a disc drive. Interestingly, these digital-only consoles come out at an important time for Xbox’s digital subscription service, Game Pass, which has justadded one of the biggest Xbox games of 2024for its Ultimate tier users. Whether the inclusion of a major first-party release on Game Pass Ultimate pays off or not in the long run remains to be seen.
