If there is one thing that everyLegend of Zeldagame seems to showcase, it is just how dangerous of a kingdom Hyrule is. People are constantly under threat from powerful forces, there are monsters roaming around every corner, andwithout Link the kingdom would surely fall. However, in recent years, that dangerous world has become even more evident thanks toZelda: Breath of the WildandTears of the Kingdom. And now,Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomseems to be taking that even further.
Of course, the main threat inZelda: Echoes of Wisdomare the massive rifts opening up and sucking everyone in. But, alongside those rifts comes the classic monsters that players have come to expect from this franchise. This time, those monsters are doing more than simply wandering the land, as they have actually built camps that they call home. Much like Link in the past two games, it is up to Princess Zelda to clear them, and for players to reap their exciting rewards.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Monster Camps Are a True Highlight
Zelda: Breath of the Wild Littered Its World With Enemies
Zelda: Breath of the Wilddid a lot toexpand upon theLegend of Zeldafranchisein exciting new ways. Most players like to point out the massive world, the fun powers, and the freeform story Nintendo chose to tell. But, along with that, there is another franchise addition that has seemingly not gained the same level of acclaim; the monster strongholds that litter the lands of Hyrule.
While a version of them wastechnically introduced inZelda: Skyward Sword,Breath of the Wildturned them into something far more. Throughout Hyrule, players can find these encampments filled with bokoblins or lizalfos. These camps often have a campfire, wooden platforms, and treasure waiting to be collected. Not only did that make for some fun bits of side content, but it also really helped make the fantasy world feel more alive, as even monsters had built themselves homes.Luckily,Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomalso chose to adopt this feature, with very few changes.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is Taking that Concept for a Spin
AlthoughZelda: Echoes of Wisdommay be extremely differentfrom those two games, it too has adopted this iteration of monster strongholds. Throughout its version of Hyrule, players can run into little bokoblin encampments. Just like with the previous twoZeldagames, these camps often have wooden platforms or some type of construction, a campfire, and numerous enemies waiting to be taken out.
Using their echoes, players can take on these camps tohelp rid Hyrule of danger. Once they are cleared, the camp’s treasure chest will be unlocked, giving players some special rewards. Additionally, they can often earn a few echoes depending upon what enemies they are facing. All of which makes for a nice piece of side content, especially for those who want to test their echo abilities against large groups of enemies.
These camps may not be much, but it is nice to see theLegend of Zeldafranchise is not treating them as just a one-off feature. They do really help showcase the dangers of Hyrule while also giving players a nice way to earn some extra rewards. However, the best part may be that they are not really mandatory activities, but instead, simply seem to exist as an occasional obstacle or to give the world a bit more life. And hopefully, they will continue to be a core part of the series going forward, as there is still so much more Nintendo could do with this concept.
