Summary
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomhas plenty of side quests for players to complete, with more opening up the more they progress through the story. These side quests can involve anything from finding a missing child to collecting lost Cuccos for a distressed Cucco farmer. One collectible side quest sticks with players for an extended period of time and quite possibly throughout most ofZelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s story once they collect the first item: the Stamp Rally.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Stamp Rally side questdoesn’t register as a side quest in the game’s Adventure Log, but it is something players do on the side all the same. What’s most interesting aboutZelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Stamp Rally side quest, however, is that it is somewhat of a repeat of a quest that first appeared in aZeldagame 15 years ago and hasn’t been reintroduced since. Specifically,Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Stamp Rally doubles down on the same objective that was introduced in a similar side quest inZelda: Spirit Trackson the Nintendo DS.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Stamp Rally Is 15 Years Old
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Sees Players Collecting Stamps Throughout Hyrule
As they exploreZelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Hyrule, players may eventually come across a curious-looking block with something resting on it. These are actually Stamp Stations that, when interacted with, grant players a stamp on their Stamp Card. The quest isn’t initiated until players interact with their first Stamp Station, upon which an NPC known as the “Stamp Guy” floats down on a glider and introduces himself and outlines the objective of the quest. From there, players are given a Stamp Card that, when filled, will see the Stamp Guy appear again and offer them a reward. Upon completing one Stamp Card, the Stamp Guy gives them another empty one, and players then repeat this process until all 25 stamps are acquired.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Stamp Rally First Appeared in Spirit Tracks 15 Years Ago
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomisn’t the first game to feature the Stamp Rally side quest, though it is only the second to do so. Instead, the Stamp Rally was initially introduced inZelda: Spirit Tracksin 2009 via the NPC Niko, who is a recurring character inThe Legend of Zeldaseries.Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Stamp Rally observes the same rules asSpirit Tracks', but the latter’s rewards pale in comparison to the former’s. WhereasSpirit Tracks' Stamp Rally only grants players three rewards (one each for collecting 10, 15, and 20),Echoes of Wisdom’s Stamp Rally rewards players with five unique rewards (one each for collecting 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25), with the final reward being aStamp Suitinspired by the Stamp Guy’s outfit.
The Stamp Rally is a satisfying and mindless side quest for players to complete as they exploreZelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Hyrule, and it just so happens to echo the same side quest fromSpirit Tracksin 2009. That’s not the only areaEchoes of Wisdomdraws inspiration fromSpirit Tracks, however, as it also features a version ofHyrule Castle Townthat is nearly identical toSpirit Tracks' in its layout and design.
It just goes to show how much loveEchoes of Wisdomhas forSpirit Tracks, especially when it comes to featuring a side quest that has otherwise only ever occurred once in the entirety ofZelda’s almost 40-year lifespan. Perhaps the nextZeldagamewill go down a similar road and include an obscure quest from the series' past that has long been forgotten.
