Summary
A player found a neat trick in Nintendo’sThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomthat allows players to take on the role of Link instead of the game’s main character, Zelda. Released on September 26,The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdommarks the first main game with the princess as the playable character rather than Link, who has been in every mainline installment since the series' 1987 origin.
In a visual setting similar to the 2019 remake ofThe Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, players control Princess Zelda, whose main quest is to save Link and take back Hyrule by using the Tri Rod, a magical artifact provided byZelda’s fairy companion called Tri. Even though the game has only been out a short time, its community is discovering unique glitches, and one of those is a bug that turnsZelda: Echos of Wisdomcompletely on its head.
Posting their discovery on YouTube, content creator alyo has unveiled a strange glitchthat allowed them to replacePrincess Zelda asEchoes of Wisdom’s main protagonistand step inside the shoes of Link instead. Alyo states that they were able to play as a cloaked Link by starting a new file and then manipulating the game by placing a sign echo on top of a tree near Kakariko Village. While hitting the sign, reading it, and opening the game’s menu, alyo could play in the minimap to kill an enemy, which then sent them to the game over screen, and load the previous save file to play as Link.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Fan Finds Playable Link Glitch
Although the glitch doesn’t let players complete the entirety of the game and will likely get patched at some point soon, alyo can be seen happily running around the Hyrule Field as Link while killing enemies inZelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s swordfighter form, which is obtained early in the game from the “Mysterious Rifts” quest. In the bug, the YouTuber still has access to Link’s weapons, including arrows and bombs, but is unable to use the Tri Rod abilities.
Alyo’s glitch isn’t the only one players have found in the past week since the game’s release. Talented speedrunners have already figured out how tobeatThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomin under one hourby utilizing a bug that allows players to fast travel and skip straight toEchoes of Wisdom’s final dungeon.
